Kavi and Sera have best best friends since the beginning of the school year. But they both have feeling for each other than definitely exceed the friend zone. Sera's still figuring herself out, however, and doesn't quite know who she is yet.
But wh...
The things we do for love thought Kavi quietly. Sera, her best frienemy since the beginning of the year, sat next to her, talking to her slowly, as if Kavi herself was a five-year-old with little to no cognitive ability.
The exchange on its own was nothing romantic. Sera came from a Jewish family (although she thought she was an atheist herself.) She had turned twelve a few months previous, and she had to study Hebrew in order to not completely mess up her Bat Mitzvah. Kavi would be attending, of course. She knew Sera got anxious, so Kavi was letting Sera teach her how to spell and write her name in Hebrew.
It was not a super fun way for Kavi to spend her time, but spending time with Sera made her so, so happy. Because there were a few things that Kavi would never, ever tell anyone. Not even Sera, her closest friend for the past eight months, who she had grown an instant bond with.
For one thing, Kavi was not straight.
For another, she was not straight for Sera.
But that didn't matter.
Even though Kavi's heart skipped a beat when Sera held up the paper that Kavi had written on, saying she did so good! First try! to their friend, Carla, who was sitting across from them. Even though Kavi got this warm fluttery feeling every time Sera (platonically) hugged her. But that didn't matter. That couldn't matter.
¨Let's go do a TikTok dance!¨ Sera's energetic laugh-yell broke Kavi out of her not-straight fantasy. As they tried (and failed) to do the FIFTY FIFTY Cupid dance, Kavi felt herself getting farther and farther away from accepting the fact that this girl could possibly not love her back.
