"So mom, what do you like to do?" Hikaru asked, leaning over your table while swinging his legs.

"What kind of question is that, Kaoru? You've only been gone for a few weeks." You chuckled. "It's like you're a whole different person."

Hikaru coughed, "uhm-! It's just that I missed you so much, you know."

"Of course you did." You smiled at him warmly, wrapping him in a warm hug.

The young boy smiled succumbing to his mother's hug. "I've wanted this for so long."

"Kaoru? Did you say something, dear?"

"Nothing, mom!" He stiffened.

----

Hikaru roamed around his mother's home. Entering random rooms, looking at framed pictures and eating a few snacks.

He was now resting on a couch, holding a bowl of snacks on his arm. He was holding a picture of Kaoru and their mom together.

"I have such a pretty mom." He whispered to himself. This whole thing was something he never expected to happen in his life, he didn't even know he had an identical twin.

He had a lot of questions running in his tiny head. He was wondering how his dad has been, how Kaoru was fairing over there and one thing that really stuck to him was asking on how their parents broke up.

He once tried asking his mother, but it was a complete bust.

It was 10:00am, Hikaru had begged his mother to let him go to work with her. While she was driving, Hikaru decided to ask.

"Mom, why did you and my dad separate?" The car abruptly stopped.

"A red light." You spoke. "What was that you said, Kaoru? I think I heard something about your dad?"

"Yeah..." He fumbled in his seat, "I just wanted to know why he isn't here, you know?"

"Oh." You did not expect this. You anticipated him asking at some point but not this early.

"I can't really remember why we separated...I guess it was just that long ago, huh?" You tried to avoid the conversation about that guy, for now at least.

Hikaru dejectedly sighed, he knew she was trying to hide it.

"Heizou, huh? I wonder...." She whispered to herself, but it was loud enough for Hikaru to hear from beside her.

It would be a lie if he said that when his mother mentioned his dad's name it didn't light something in him. He tried to assume that his mom probably still felt something for him.

"Hello, young man." An older man approached him, sitting down next to him. "I see you have that old picture of yours."

"Grandpa..." "So tell me, how does it feel?"

Hikaru was taken aback, "what-" "you may fool my daughter but I'm incredibly perceptive."

It was his Grandfather, Zhongli. When Kaoru told Hikaru about him, he expected to see an old dude but he was surprisingly young, even so that Hikaru thought he was his mom's boyfriend. But apparently Zhongli adopted (y/n) when she was young and him a bored teenager.

"You aren't who you seem to be, Kaoru." He smiled at the young boy, ruffing his hair. "because Kaoru definitely has softer hair than this."

"What- hey that's kinda mean!" Hikaru huffed, "who else could I be, but Kaoru?"

"I do not know." Zhongli kept a calm look, his hand still on his grandchild's hair. "You see, when I found out your mother was pregnant, I naturally hated it at first.

Then his eyes became softer, "But when she had asked me to suggest names for her children, as her father I never felt more happier."

Zhongli gave Hikaru a warm smile, "and because she chose the names I gave her, I know that if she finds out it's you, she'd be more than happy."

"Hello, Hikaru." He hugged him. Tightly.

Hikaru felt tears well in his eyes. This was the first time that someone hugged him as Hikaru, and not Kaoru.

The two of them stayed like that for awhile. When Hikaru decided to speak up.

"Hey, Grandpa?" Hikaru called, "why did mom and dad separate?"

Zhongli's eyes widened, "Heizou?"

"Yes, I tried asking mom but she pushed it away. I remember asking dad a ton of times too but he never really gave me a straight answer." He pulled away from us grandfather, and look him straight in the eye, hoping for a response.

The older man sighed, "I do not know what happened between them."

Hikaru felt dejected, slumping on the couch.

"But, I remember what they were like as young lovers." "really?"

"Allow me to tell you all about them."
