after that day, everything in your life went to shit at a rapid and unforgiving pace. though, you wouldn't be the type of person who stuck around and watched the world burn or be a part of such distraughtness and panic.

you had already been part of a tightly-knitted group. when the sick freaks started attacking the living and actually breathing people, you found yourself in the rare chance where fate actually had your back and you had been heavily supplied with weapons to protect yourself against the undead.

you didn't fully understand how everything went down, and why there were hordes of undead people who were killing others due to not being around when it had all escalated. to say you were freaked out would be an understatement. your first encounter with those horrid beasts had gone like this: you screamed bloody murder as only terror flushed through your veins.

you ran around the zombie for what seemed like an eternity of suffering, dodging the hostile beast hastily and efficiently as you hadn't been bestowed the confidence of actually killing it just yet. your chest was rising and falling with a quicken pace which wasn't normal and the longer you ran the more the burning sensation tortured you.

the zombie you were put against were disfigured and grotesque looking. it's skin had completely rotted, grayish toned as parts were only showing the muscles and tendons underneath. it had bloodshot eyes which stared at you with a sense of hunger. you didn't want to kill the opponent due to them previously being a person. you had high morals, and you weren't sure that you were ready to let this one go.

the exact moment you almost got bit by the untamed beast was a turning point in your views of taking upon this new adaptation necessary to continue living. you turned around and kicked the undead's kneecap, sending it falling to the floor. you had hastily matured to the stage where you stepped into your big girl shoes and took the zombie down by stomping on its head, crushing it as gushes of red seeped onto the ground.

as the lifeless body laid on the floor, you were experiencing a massive surge of emotions. your eyes widened at your crimson red covered boot as you raised your hand into your eye's view to see how horribly you were shaking. a part of you couldn't even recognize who you were in that moment. you had gone from a simple florist who was living the calmest life to a "survivor" in the zombie apocalypse. part of you knew that this was the breakthrough that you had been prepping for since you were a kid and that you'd be perfectly fine, and the other side was scared shitless to watch those around you slowly decline in numbers.

everywhere you went, it was a sick reminder that the places you once spent so much time in had become bundles of rubble, destruction caused by the fearful, and post abandonment due to nobody wanting to stay and wait around for a customer who may or may not rip them into bits and pieces.

the streets were littered with debris as those who were shitting their pants and bought the necessities within each store had dropped trash along their path. various buildings were in the deep stages of disrepair, some even had incurable holes within them from people losing control over their vehicles and crashing into them.

the air that surrounds you was consistently thick with the smell of death and decay, and the seemingly nearby sounds of shuffling footsteps and moaning constantly kept you on your toes.

that was exactly the reason you heard screams coming from within the police station which you and your partner had been trying to get into. the moment those horrified and struggling sounds entered your ears, a sudden alarm went off inside your head that desired for you to start rushing towards the noises that had previously appeared.

your body had been completely reacting on it's own, because you knew better than to just tun absentmindedly towards danger without knowing exactly the situation. however, this felt completely different. it was like you were being pulled to assist with whatever may be going on, and there was nothing you could do to change that.
