Chapter 4

Tyson found his assigned room, where he would be sharing space with a guy named Jimmy. Disappointment washed over him as he realized he wasn't paired with one of the attractive girls he had hoped for; instead, he was stuck with another guy, and he couldn't understand why. Opening the door, he found Jimmy sprawled on one of the beds, looking like the quintessential high school football player—a type Tyson had always despised.

"You must be Jimmy! I'm Tyson, your roommate," Tyson introduced himself, attempting to sound friendly, but Jimmy barely acknowledged him. It was as if the rumors about Tyson had already reached him, and he didn't seem interested in getting to know him. "Ah, you're the famous Tyson; I heard what you did. That's wrong, man," Jimmy shot back, his tone dripping with disdain. Tyson bristled at the accusation, feeling the sting of Jimmy's judgment. "She deserved worse, honestly. That William corrupted her," Tyson retorted, frustration boiling over as he fought back against the backlash he was receiving. Jimmy paused, his disapproval evident, but he continued to listen, albeit reluctantly.

Jen sat in her shared room with William, feeling despondent as she wallowed in sadness over her recent breakup, attributing the heartache to her own shortcomings. William, noticing her mood, felt a pang of empathy and decided to do something special to lift her spirits. He went online and booked a trip to Wonderland for the following day, knowing that a fun outing would cheer her up. Throughout the day, he offered her reassurance and enveloped her in comforting hugs, determined to show his support. After securing the tickets, he tucked Jen in, ensuring she felt cared for, and left their shared room to approach the leadership table in the café. There, he spotted two of the other drivers, Mark and Brian, and asked them to run the upcoming training session. Both men agreed without hesitation; Brian was a rugged family man who cherished his wife and children, usually preferring to patrol the halls when he wasn't driving, while the younger, more athletic Mark had a penchant for working in the infirmary.

With the training organized, William returned to check on Jen, still worried about her well-being and wanting to keep his promise to protect her. Upon opening the door, he was greeted by a sight that warmed his heart—Jen was up and about, looking noticeably happier. "Hi, William! Thanks for being patient. I am feeling way better," she said with a smile, which brightened his mood even more. He grinned widely and handed her two sheets of paper, her initial confusion quickly transforming into excitement as she read the details. "Jen, I would love to take you on a Wonderland date. We leave early tomorrow!" he declared, and her eyes sparkled with joy as she replied, "Yeah, I would love that!" Checking the time, William suggested, "Well, it's getting late! How about we rest for our big day tomorrow?" They agreed and headed into their respective rooms, which were designed for leaders to share with designated drivers. Jen kept the arrangement a secret from Tyson, knowing it would only incite jealousy and anger despite their differing ranks. In the cozy dorm with two beds, they settled in, ready for the adventures that awaited them the next day.

In the early morning light, William gently roused Jen from her sleep with a soft kiss on her forehead, fully aware of her disdain for early mornings and wanting to ensure she felt as relaxed as possible. As she blinked awake and glanced at her reflection, he found her adorably cute, a smile creeping onto his face. Once she was fully up, she approached him, and he handed her a bus driver uniform, prompting a curious raise of her brow. "What is this for?" she asked, unfolding the garment in confusion.

William's grin widened as he replied, "I would love to work with you when this all ends. I don't know if you have the license, but..." Jen silenced him by pulling out her bus driver's license, making his excitement palpable. After a brief moment, she went to change, and when she returned, William offered to do her hair, to which she happily agreed. As he worked on her tie, he couldn't help but admire how beautiful she looked, feeling a rush of warmth at the sight of her. "Let's head to Wonderland," he said with an enthusiastic grin as they stepped outside together.

With the buses grounded due to the impending war, they made their way to the nearby train station. Once on board, Jen voiced a question that had been on her mind since their walk. "Is this a date?" she asked nervously, her gaze fixed on the ground. William smiled, his heart fluttering. "Yes, it is. I wanted to surprise you because you deserve a nice time," he replied, which brought a sweet smile to her face. When the train finally reached their stop, William guided her through the bustling transit system of the unfamiliar city, where the drivers, though typically unfriendly, softened their demeanor upon seeing a fellow driver in their midst.

As they arrived at the amusement park, the joyful screams from the rollercoaster filled the air, and William smirked, certain that they were in for a delightful day. Taking her hand to ensure he wouldn't lose her in the lively crowd, he felt a rush of excitement at the prospect of spending this special day with her, their hands intertwined as they stepped into the park together.

As they entered the amusement park, hand in hand, William held the tickets up to the taker, and they finally stepped into the vibrant world of thrills and laughter. Keeping his grip on Jen's hand, he led her to the nearest ride, the Leviathan coaster, where he pulled out two Fast Lane Plus bracelets. With a playful grin, he fastened one around her wrist, watching her face light up in shock, before securing his own. They made their way to the fast lane, where a brief wait felt like nothing compared to the excitement ahead. As they stood together, William felt a delightful weight against him and noticed Jen leaning into him. It filled him with joy to see her finally comfortable enough to trust him, and he wrapped his arms around her from behind, guiding her to the front row when their turn came.

As they hopped into their seats and the ride took off, exhilaration surged through them, reaching speeds of 140 km/h. They cheered together, reveling in the rush of the descent and the shared thrill. After the ride, they stopped to purchase a photo capturing their joyous expressions, a perfect memento of their day.

Hours later, hunger struck, prompting them to search for food. William led Jen to a charming diner, where they savored delicious meals and shared laughter that echoed around them. The rest of the day was filled with more rides and memorable moments, culminating in a bittersweet farewell as the park closed and it was time to head home. Feeling content, William decided he wanted to officially ask Jen to be his girlfriend during one of the coaster rides, and to his delight, she happily agreed.

On the train ride back, Jen succumbed to sleep, her head resting against his shoulder. William, cherishing the moment, gently picked her up as they disembarked, carrying her back to the base with care. The atmosphere was quiet upon their return, and as they entered their dorm, he noticed that everyone else was asleep. Tucking Jen into bed, he planted a soft kiss on her forehead, his heart swelling with affection. After placing the ride photo on the fridge as a cherished reminder of their perfect day, he returned to their room, climbed into bed beside her, and pulled her close, surrendering to a peaceful sleep filled with dreams of their adventures together.
