cramming for exams

ella sighed, leaning back in her chair. her remaining work spread out in front of her in heaps of chaos. "it's almost 9pm- please don't tell me you've been cramming all day" lana observed she leant against the doorway. It's been some years since she attended fordham, but she certainly hasn't forgotten the stress of exam week. "not gonna lie, i have been at this all day. sorry." ella replied. "honey why are you apologizing?" lana came closer, wrapping her arms around ella "however, i would like it if you could take breaks from time to time. it's good for you, you know" lana softly spoke in her ear. "yes i know" ella playfully rolled her eyes. "okay. as long as you know". it's so cute how lana can be like such a protective mother sometimes. "don't you think you've done enough for today? it's amazing how your head hasn't exploded yet!" lana chuckled. "i'll be done soon, i just have to figure out how to do this question." ella replied
"okay then.."  lana quickly kissed her head before she made her way to the door "please be quick. love you."
"love you too" ella replied, smiling to herself while getting back to studying.

20 minutes later, lana comes back to check on ella. "are you done soon? it feels like i haven't seen you in forever"
"just finished. i'm all yours now"
"finallyyy" lana said in a sarcastic tone as she grabbed ella's hand and gently pulled her to the living room.
lana brought her to the couch and made her sit down. "i'll be right back. wait right here" lana told ella. two minutes later, lana arrived back with her arms full of their favourite snacks. she put them down on the coffee table next to the couch. ella opened her arms for lana, to which she quickly closed the space between them. lana placed her head on ella's shoulder and hid herself in the crook of her neck. ella gently rubbed lana's back as she held her back tightly. it felt so good to be in her arms again. it's been so long since they have truly spent time in each others presence since lana was rehearsing for her upcoming shows, and ella has been preparing for her final exams. "i missed this so much you have no idea" lana mumbled into ella. "same- and you haven't even gone anywhere yet". lana is scheduled to leave to her first show in about a week, meanwhile ella has to stay in la to write her exams. "i really wish i could come with you to brazil- especially since it's your first show in years. i wanna be there to support my favourite girl" ella said apologetically. "i obviously wish you could come too, but don't stress that you can't be there. you're already stressed enough, love". lana replied reassuringly. "are you nervous at all?" ella asked. "i mean who wouldn't be- but i'm more excited than anything. like i'm nowhere near as nervous as i was 10 years ago haha" lana recalled how hard it was at the beginning of her career.

"anything you wanna watch?" lana asked as she turned on the tv. "you choose, i'm too tired to care right now" ella yawned.
15 minutes into the show, lana realized that ella was already fast asleep in her arms. she wrapped a blanket around her and held her tightly until she fell asleep too.

lana woke up a few hours later and noticed that ella was still sleeping soundly in her arms and that they were still in the living room.
she checked the time: 1 am.
lana slowly got up, careful to not wake ella. she gently picked her up and carried her to their bedroom. she tucked her into the soft duvet and got in beside ella, admiring how peaceful she looks when she sleeps. lana refrained from holding her again because she was afraid that would wake her up. soon enough, lana fell back asleep to the sound of her wife softly breathing in the dark silence of night.
