My mind is a mess. I feel unexpectedly exposed without my mask, the shattered remains I left behind were held dearer than I could have imagined. Helen has not said a word after the incident, he follows behind quietly as we walked through the remaining hall to the Commons.

Sure enough, a large gaping hole resides in the thick structure, pulverized brick, metal, and glass lines both the interior and the dewy grass outside, large inhuman footprints pathed a path to the tall concrete wall where there is finger like marking linking up the brick and over the tall barrier.

Helen and I share a glance, nodding to one another as we turn to the scene of battle. It is chaos. Blood, bodies, and smoke painted the once picturesque entrance to the grand facility. Holes scar the earth with black remains of bullets, a small scaled personal battlefield set for those who fight for freedom.

The mercenaries are relentless, equipped with the means to dispose of every variant of creature that attempts to cross their line, armed with tear gas and automatic firearms that no human or beast can withstand.

Helen and I hardly had a minute to take in the scene, our bright uniforms act as a beacon to be targeted, drawing the fire of the guards stationed with the mercenaries.

"There" Helen yells over the surrounding noise, tapping me on the shoulder and pointing to Angel who is waving her arms furiously to get our attention. The resounding bullets that connect with the institutions wall is to close for my liking, it ushered Helen and I to make haste, the bullets marring the building with each hurried step, striking inches away from limbs that are working hard despite being abused by the shrapnel repelled from the surrounding holes.

I try to catch my breath as I collapse behind the signage, joining Angel and Alex behind the riddled wood that appears to be at its limit. Angel had shown relief at our presence, noting that we both looked like shit despite she herself sporting more than one flesh wound. She held a sword closely to her body; the pearly blade had a holy gleam that appears threatening with the red tint. I suspect Clockwork had returned it to her after raiding item containment.

Alex has himself pressed firmly against the back of the brick shield, covering his head in a protective ball, his glasses sported a fine crack running up the lens after an unfortunate trip, his knees bloody, hands scraped, and fingers shaking as he runs them through his hair.

"This is crazy", he comments, his eyes wide with disbelief.

I chuckle at him as I try to settle my breathing, my legs burn from being used all night and the lack of sleep is sapping my strength. Helen is in no better state, yet he gives Angel a comforting pat on the back, his lip twitches with a faint grin.

Angel returns the gesture, smiling with a sigh and an exhausted rub of her shoulder, "Suppose it was too much to wish walking through the doors would be the end of it."

"Things can never be easy for us Angel", Helen says in jest, but things have indeed escalated significantly. one would think it would be harder to defend yourself within the confined halls of the institution would make our survival difficult, but with my luck all but extinguished I doubt I have the audacity to free run and matrix the incoming ammunition, even with the freedom of the yard.

I swallow hard, the reality is that I no longer have plot armor to protect me from a premature death. Somehow, I consider that a shame, I have wanted to end my mundane existence for so many years and within a few months the idea is suddenly no longer appealing. No, something more extreme than appeal, a reluctancy that I cannot place sits in the back of my mind yet has been rearing its head as of late.

"Oh my God", Angel swears as she peeks out into the yard, I hadn't the chance to question before the terrifying spray of ammunition escalated in a horrible thunderous racket that bombarded the sign with such a force it shook. The four of us look out in horror as the ammunition from a revamped WW2 mounted machine gun trains its fire upon the wall with little concern with who they are putting holes into.
