Animal Instincts (Dramione)

Chapter 1

Today is just going another usual day, right? No, of course not, this is Hogwarts I think to myself while chomping on a bit of toast in the Great Hall. I check the time quick and then usher Harry and Ron out to class. 

We had DADA first today and this year all of the sixth years we taking it together. Snape would still be teaching potions since Dumbledore found a woman willing to teach us despite the supposed curse on this teaching position. 

I'd heard from our new professor that we'd be focusing on animagi and patronuses for a few weeks and I had already been researching them for quite awhile. After a short interview with McGonagal I decided to try and work at becoming one, but so far it was a long and frustrating process.

I had been trying for many months and kept coming up unsuccessful each time. I had a hard time focusing on an animal to become. I had tried my patronus and many of my friends after I couldn't come up with another animal, but none fit well enough yet. Maybe today I will get some better ideas from what Professor Maridan teaches us. 

"Hermione," Ron says bringing me back from my thoughts. "It's time to go in. She just got here."

We walk inside and sure enough, written on the chalk board a the front of the class is Patronuses and Animagi. All of the chairs and desks have been vanishes and the walls have been covered in mirrors. I noticed the room had also grown to fit all of the students. The Professor ushers us to the front of the room and begins to talk about today's plans.

"Okay, so today we will be working on conjuring your patronus first. Then later I have a fun little activity relating to animagi." She stepped back a bit and told everyone to spread out. "Those who already can successfully conjure a patronus please form a line in front of me. When you get to the front  cast the spell and you are free to relax until the rest of the class has conjured theirs." 

All of the members of DA and a few other students went into the line and one by one conjured their patronuses. Soon we had a stag, jack russell terrier, otter, fox, hare, boar, swan and a few more floating around in the air above the class. There was a soft grey-blue glow covering the room from the mirrors reflecting the light of the animals.

The Professor then moved to the group who couldn't conjure theirs yet and worked with each one of them until they all had somewhat done it.  

"We will be working and learning more about patronuses in the next class, but for the rest of today's class if everyone could come back up front and take an orange vial please." said Professor Maridan. 

All of the students crowded up to the desk, curious of the effects of the orange drink. The professor then fed us a new set of directions and explained what would happen once we take it. "A few minutes after drunk, this potion will turn you into the animal you will become if you choose to become an animagus. Some of you will have he same animal and your patronus and that is one of the things we will talk about next class when we compare your animals. Once everyone has one you make drink it and you have the rest of the class time to enjoy this new form. If anyone is interested in working at becoming an animagus please see me after class."

Everyone eagerly snatched one and moved back to their own space waiting for the change to happen. The professor quickly called our attention back to call out "have fun" and then she stood up from her chair and assumed the form of her own animagus, a peregrine falcon.
