Loving from a Distance

Prologue

Third Person POV

It is the month of August which means it's the back-to-school season. In Canada schools start today while back in the tropical island of Jamaica, the kids still had a few weeks of summer left as school begins in September for them.

Normani's friends pulled into the parking lot of their social institution and sat back in awe

"Can you believe, we are now in our last year of University" Lauren said in awe

"I was more excited to leave this hell hole this time last year" Ally stated from the driver's seat as she was the one to drop the girls to school that morning

"You need some dick in your life. You are way too cranky" Dinah said to her older sister before exiting the car

"What I need is for y'all to learn to drive. Now if you'll excuse me, I have bills to pay and they aren't gonna pay themselves so I gotta go to work" Ally answered and made a crying face as she turned to the Lauren who was still seated in the back of her car

Lauren cringed and got out of the car to stand beside Dinah, watching as she texted away on her phone.

"I'm texting egg head to see if she's almost here" the blonde answered knowing the older woman's thoughts

Lauren nodded and watched as Ally drove away and out of the campus. Not long after the two heard bickering approaching them and so they turned to face them knowing it was the Hamilton sisters being their usual selves, bickering/arguing with one another

"You do it all the time and I keep telling you to stop" Normani argued

"Well maybe you should learn how to fucking drive so I won't make you late all the time. Ever though about that?" Ryan replied as they both walked up the steps to meet the two friends standing and awaiting their presence

Ryan is the older sister and she is a medical student now in her second year of med school at the same Univeristy

"Whatever" the younger sibling scoffed

"Bitch" Ryan mumbled before walking away

"Whore" Normani bit back loud enough for her sister to hear after hearing Ryan's remarks

Ryan flashed her middle finger

"You know where to stick it hoe, right where the sun don't shine!" Normani yelled and rolled he eyes before regaining her composure

"Hey y'all" she greeted grinning at the couple causing the two young women to shriek in excitement which soon had Normani to joining in

"We are officially college seniors" Normani stated once their excitement calmed down

"I wonder who our academic advisors are" Lauren asked

"I got Mr. Bell" Dinah groaned as she was majoring in another degree different from Normani and Lauren

"You mean old and smelly Mr. Bell?" Lauren questioned with he nosed wrinkled p in disgust

"Yup" the youngest female answered

"Aw, I'm sorry babe. I wish I could help you out" The jet black haired woman replied looking up at her girlfriend

"I mean you can" Dinah smirked which also caused Lauren to smirk

"You two need to chill for real, classes haven't even started yet" Normani said

"You know you can always join us boo" Dinah said winking at her best friend

"Mhm" Lauren hummed in agreement as her eyes raked over the dark-skinned girl's outfit which was just a matching formal pants suit, her hair flat ironed and in a low ponytail

"For the millionth time. I'm good, now let's go before all the seats are taken" Normani said before she started walking toads the auditorium where they were having their annual orientation

On their way inside the auditorium Normani bumped into someone causing her to stumble back some

"Ouch" Both Normani and the other female said

"I'm sorry I should've been paying attention" the stranger said but the three young women stood in shock and admiration

"Uh... Hi" the stranger added awkwardly

"Heyy it's totally fine. I'm Normani by the way and this is Dinah and Lauren" Normani said

"Nice to meet you girls. I'm Lori-Ann but everyone calls me Lori." the stranger greeted

"I hope you don't mind me asking but why were you leaving?" Lauren asked

"Its fine and to answer that Orientations are basically the same every year, its the same welcome speech, we meet our faculty heads and what not. In other words its boring. I was just on my way to my dorm room to relax until tomorrow basically. You do know that classes start tomorrow right?" Lori answered with a shrug

"Yeah but we always attend orientation incase they have any important information we may need" Dinah chimed in

"Well, suit yourself. I'm done for the day. See you girls tomorrow?" Lori asked and they all nodded in agreement

Lori-Ann walked away and the three girls watched as she did

"Damn, she fine" Lauren stated

"And drop dead gorgeous" Dinah said

"And she got an ass on her" Normani added causing the couple to face her with raised eyebrows

"What? I said I'm not interested in girls but that doesn't mean I don't look at them" she clarified

Both Lauren and Dinah shook their heads and proceeded to walk with their friend further into the auditorium

In Jamaica

"Maleah! How much time mi ago tell yuh fi siddung and kip quiet? Sit you likkle ass down man. Lawd God mi cyah wait fi school open! (How many times will I tell you to sit and keep quiet? Sit your little ass down man. Lord God I can't wait for school to open!)" Marjorie yelled from the kitchen

Y/N was fast asleep in his bedroom to hear what was going on. Today (Wednesday) was his day off and so he decided to spend it with his family. His father, Steve was a television spokes person, his mother, Marjorie is an accountant and together the married couple made three beautiful children. Y/N being the eldest, Lori-Ann being the middle child and Maleah being the youngest who obviously still lives with her parents

The eldest child of the Harvey family owns his own house as he is in the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF); a soldier and his pay is high enough for him to have bought his house for this 20th birthday. Lori is a college student and so she lives on campus which her parents pays for each semester. She is an exceptional scholar, received multiple scholarships and awards since elementary school in Jamaica. However, she does travel back home for holidays. Maleah is following in her sister's footstep as she too is a top scholar at one of the best private schools in Kington Jamaica. Y/N was also a top scholar, his name being written down on the Honor Roll for each grade. He decided to top at high school and join the military as he didn't find pursuing a higher degree efficient for him

"Y/N/NNNNN!!!" Maleah drew out as she ran into her brother's room

A groan left his lips when he felt her jumping up and down on the bed causing him to awake from his once sleeping state

"Daddy said you're taking me back-to-school shopping today" The seven year old grinned and hugged her brother by wrapping her arms around his neck and smirked before tightening her grip

But seeing as he was way bigger in size compared to her, he didn't budge

"I tell them all the time that they gave birth to a demon child cause why would you do that?" Y/N asked as he flipped her causing her to land on her back. The bedroom was filled with her laughs up until she left the room
