In the harsh glare of the lights, my shadow stretched out across the stage. My toes pointed and taunt, my arms fluttering like wings, I arched my neck and watched as my own silhouette seemed to move without me...
A drop of sweat slid down my chest and seeped into the fabric of my leotard. There was no music. The room beyond was dark and empty, yet I could feel my choreographers eyes on me. I tried not to tremble as I lifted my chin up to meet his gaze. Slowly, I extended my long muscular leg into the air
He rapped his staff on the floor. "Again"
I wiped my temples. The floor was speckled with blood and sweat from hours of practice, but still I took my position. On the choreographers count, the thirteen ballerinas around me began to flit in and out in cascades of white, their shoes patterning softly against the wood
"One and two and three and four! "
And before I knew it, my feet were moving soundlessly across the stage, I dipped my head back, fanning my arms towards the light. I twirled, my back flexed into a crescent as the dancers flew past, my legs wove around each other with effortless grace that's when my head started to feel light and I felt myself drifting away the last thing I remember Is falling to the floor.
