I sat in a small room with dark blue walls. It seemed to be pretty old, because it smelled musty and there were visible cracks in the walls. The only furniture in the windowless room were two leather armchairs that were worn down with use and a small wooden coffee table that barely looked strong enough to hold a book.
I looked up when my mom walked in. She was crying. "Mom I-"
She cut me off with a hug. "It's not your fault, don't you ever think that."
"I don't think I can win."
"Don't talk like that. You have to try. For me."
I took a deep breath.
"Please Percy. Tell me you'll try to win." She held my hand in her's'.
I looked her in the eye. "I promise I'll try to win."
She unclasped her necklace that she was wearing. It was a small blue seashell on a silver chain. Probably the most expensive thing we owned. "You could use this as you're token. I know it's kinda girly bu-"
"No, it's okay." I took it. "I don't care. Thank you. Oh God, I'm tearing up."
"I love you."
"I love you too, mom." We hugged again. A peacekeeper announced that I had to leave now so I stood up and wiped my face with my sleeve. "See you later then."
She chuckled and I left.
