Taehyung was running.

He was running fast.

Because his life depended on it.

It was dark. He was running through a tunnel. Its walls seemed to be shrinking around him, suffocating him.

He couldn't breathe. His lungs burned with every step but he couldn't stop running.

The tunnel was shifting right around him. It blurred in his peripheral vision. The round walls transformed into a corridor with windows with bars on them. It scared him and he ran faster.

But his little legs couldn't carry him any faster. He was only eight years old.

He heard pitiful screams coming from the rooms as he ran down the all too familiar hallway.

He needed to get out of here. That was the only thought that kept him moving.

He heard another scream. He recognised that voice.

Little Su-ho.

But Taehyung couldn't save him he was still a little boy, he couldn't even protect himself yet.

So he ran.

Because his life depended on it.

He pushed himself harder.

And then he saw it. The exit. It was right there. Just a little further, he told himself. He was almost there.

"Stop him!" A shrill voice echoed through the hallway and he picked up his pace running towards his freedom.

Almost there.

He shoved the door open and felt the sting of the cold air on his face. YES! he thought. Finally free.

Before he could take another step through the door a pair of rough hands grabbed him from behind.

He opened his mouth to scream but one of the dirty rough hands had already pressed on his face, smothering him.

NO! he thought when the door closed again and he was pulled back inside and roughly thrown against the wall. He heard the crack of his bones and saw a fist slam right into his face.

Taehyung screamed. Thrashing around wildly, he needed to free himself.

"No. Please don't" he cried. "I'll be good"

He shivered and cried until he felt a pair of soft delicate hands wrap around him from behind.

"It's just a dream Tae. You're okay. I've got you"

"Sua?" He called instinctively.

"No, Its me. Jia" she said in a soft voice.

He sighed, turning around, looking for her in the darkness. His arms found her warm body and he pressed himself against her.

"Jia-ya" he mumbled as his lips searched for hers.

Jia had made all the difference in his life. She was his anchor. His safe place.

He pulled her closer as his lips finally found hers, healing him and easing the pain in his chest. Just a little bit.

"Nae Sarang" he whispered feverishly against her lips.

He felt her stiffen in his arms. He knew she didn't love him. But it didn't matter. He loved her enough for the both of them.

He hid his face in her shoulder. He was safe. It was just a dream. He wasn't a kid anymore, he wasn't trapped inside the hell house anymore.

He was free.

Or at least as free as he could be. Physically.
