"You eat quite a bit-" she laughed.
"UMAI!"
Y/N glanced around, people were beginning to stare at the duo. "Yes, umai, can you seriously afford to eat like this?"
Rengoku laughed as he winked at her but he let the question linger in the air.
"Being mysterious, I see. " Y/N picked at her food, eating at a painstakingly slow pace.
"Are you alright? Do you not like it? I can get you something else if you would prefer."
"No, no. I chose it, and it is quite alright."
"Then?" Rengoku straightened up, keen on hearing what she has to say.
"It has just been a bit since I spent time with someone outside of work."
"Is that bothering you? I can leave, or have you been too lonely?"
"you ask too many questions"
"and you don't answer them."
The silence lingered while the two of them ate. Y/N took her time, preoccupied with questions. What was she to do next? How was she to get this man to let her go without any more interaction? After all the two of them could not be friends. Y/N simply could not trust him. She was what people called a witch, a magic-conjuring beast. She could not make friends with anyone outside of the small clans that were like her. She could not even use a proper breathing style. She was not a skilled demon slayer. Since she was incapable of learning the styles on her own and unwilling to get a mentor she had to resort to more drastic measures. She found that she could simulate a breathing form by using her own blood to power a blade. It was a way of using witch's magic in a lesser, and more convenient form. She called it Blood Breathing. She had heard that it is possible to make your own breathing but is unsure if she actually accomplished such a task.
Rengoku hummed softly, "Do you have a breathing style? I would assume so since you appear to be dressed in the attire of a demon slayer. But perhaps you are a special case." Rengoku smiled brightly as he watched her.
"I suppose"
"And it is?" He leaned in.
"Something that you will have to find out" Her lips perked up slightly seeing the disappointment on Rengoku's face. "I am a character of secrets."
"No. Not a character of secrets, just someone that wishes to take the long route of getting to know someone. No one truly wants to be a secret, they are only scared to be hurt. But everyone wishes for someone to know, and cherish them."
Y/N stood and stretched out. "You ready?" She asked with a slight yawn in her voice.
"Hm. We must do this again, perhaps I can introduce you to my friends. You would love them."
"Sure. Some day." A day that would never come she hoped. Friends were hard to withhold.
"You are welcome to stay in the butterfly mansion."
"Oh, I couldn't trouble you like that."
"It is no trouble! But if you insist on leaving then I know a place in a nearby town you can stay the night. "
"I insist." Y/N smiled at the young lady. She found it hard to believe that this girl was younger than her, and yet a hashira. The insect pillar smiled back, though her smile seemed a bit forced.
Y/N took the recommendation from the insect pillar and found herself perched on the balcony of a small room. She watched the sun fade in the distance. On her way out of the butterfly mansion, she recalled hearing that a few of the hashiras were sent on missions this afternoon. She rested her head upon her arm as she attempted to remember who -
"Ah, yes. The wind, water, and flame hashiras."
She could not help but marvel at their positions and power. The idea of it eased her into a gentle sleep. And the next morning she was off. She had no idea where she was going, she just walked.
~~~ It is short today so I am terribly sorry. School started which is fun, I suppose (sarcasm). I will try to update as soon as possible. As for my other stories - yeah.
