Today is just another boring day in a very slow college life for me. I was tired of all the classes and teachers telling me things that I won't ever use. I decided to skip class that day. I decided to sit under a calming pine tree. After a while I moved all the pinecones away so I could just nap laying there. The coolness of the shade clashing with the heat of the sun felt so nice as I snored and my mouth opened wide. It was at that moment right before I could fully slumber that something fell into my throat.
I sprang up with a start trying to get anyone to notice me. But I knew I was the only one to come here during this time of day. Even if it was in vain I tried to scream air tearing my lungs as I tried to force it out my throat. It was there that I died. And the only words I could think of in the end were...
Death sucks.
I thought those would be the last words I would ever hear but I was proven wrong quite quickly when I heard a voice say, " Then begin anew." I had no idea where I was or if I could move. I could tell I didn't have a body, I was just a floating sphere and then I saw a man glowing in front of what I assumed was me. The man looked to be about in his 60's.
He had a bowl cut hairstyle and a long beard that almost reached the ground. As he gestured his hand to some area to the side and asked, "Do you want to?" I was shocked and wasn't sure i could speak but as words formulated they came out of my being like text.
Want to what?
I thought as I asked the man what he was talking about. He looked at me smugly and simply said, "To be reincarnated." he said as he gestured to his right. And I saw scenes that are otherworldly. "You picked a good day to die my bored friend because I, as the Reincarnator, can allow you to choose whatever body I show you." He said trying to add some showmanship as he presented it to me. "First one is a classic, an overpowered human." He said. If I had eyes I felt like I was rolling them. " Okay i can sense your distaste i mean there's no meaning to life if you have nothing to be better at. So how about this. A beautiful elven girl? You get to be royalty." He continued. I thought about it but I am okay being a boy and the rich people I know have been snobs.
Anything else?I thought because I assumed he could read my mind.
"Well the only one left is a rough one, a Half-orc. You gain enough strength but everyday is fighting. It might be interesting but it might get you killed." It sounded more interesting than the other two so I tried my best to accept that decision.
"Half-orc it is apparently?" He said, "But I would feel bad if you died in your second life so quickly so I'll give you this skill called last chance. You will figure out what it does when it becomes important. Now off you go." As he forced my soul in a different body. It was weird being in a younger body again. I saw so many large green masses surrounding me. But I could not really move. Yet I could understand them.
I know the words were of a different language and sounded gruff and gravely but I understood them entirely.
"What are we going to do with the half breed? He is so small." I heard one of the more feminine voices say."
"He's a Runt" a more gruff voice said
"That's enough!" I heard a deep voice roar silencing the other one's. "This child, though he be a runt, is the child of our greatest warrior. If he cannot live with our children he shall die within the first few moons. I want to hear no more about tossing him out. If he is strong he stays. However to appease you he shall be named Runt for his size. He will either use it and become strong or hate it and die before he can truly grow. Now disperse all of you." The green masses started to leave where I was in mass and I was placed in a sharp and spiky crib by other small green beings. Even if I am not the most liked, I will do my best to be strong.
