Sorsa Fossey POV
I thank Mr. Haggarty again as I head for the door. He waves me off, telling me to return and buy more from his shop tomorrow. All I can think about is Ominis's hands on me again, and I plan to tell him as much when I open the cottage door. I freeze when I spot two heads of well-groomed light brown hair. Ominis is still reclined against the stone wall, but his shoulders are tense. His unseeing eyes dart in my direction for the tiniest moment before returning to looking straight ahead. The other man must be Marvolo. I shudder at the realization. He looks like Ominis, but his features betray a harshness to him, which Ominis's does not. He is well dressed, like Ominis, wearing a dark purple puff tie, vest, and coat combo. His hair is longer than Ominis's but still swept neatly back. My heart rate increases as fear clouds my mind. I want to protect Ominis. I sit casually on Mr. Haggarty's step, like I live here and just need fresh air.
"Yes, well, Father will see me when I return home after graduation. I won't be bothered before then." Ominis says in a bored tone.
"Defiant as always. And what are you even doing in this ratty village?" Marvolo chuckles to himself.
"My business is my own. I could ask you the same question, though?" Ominis says, rubbing his temple.
"It would seem young Theresa Black was gathering evidence against her own family and a few others regarding the use of dark magic. I came to clear the air with her. She was much more open to hearing me out when I was finished with her. Or should I say, when I finished in her?" Marvolo lets out a heinous laugh, sending chills down my spine.
"Only way for you to enjoy women is through force these days, huh?" Ominis chides a look of disgust on his face.
"You've got more bark than the last time I saw you, little brother." Marvolo comments. Then he looks at me. I drop my head, but it's too late. "What do we have here? An eavesdropper? Accio." I fly toward and slump on the ground.
"No, sir, I was just getting air," I say quickly.
"I don't believe you, pretty girl. What did you hear? You should know I'm very persuasive." Marvolo sneers. I stand up and back away a few steps.
"I couldn't say, sir. I wasn't paying attention." I say, holding my hands out in front of me. Ominis is deathly motionless, eyes tilted toward the ground.
"What a lovely body you have. Are you a student?" Marvolo stalks toward me. I feel fear, but it's not overwhelming. Ominis's presence fills me with a sense of bravery. I decide I'm done acting shy.
"None of your fucking business." I stop backing up.
"What's this? I do prefer it when they fight." Marvolo sneers. I sneer back.
"Leave her alone, Marvolo," Ominis says, his voice sounds dangerous. I internally scold myself for the heat that pools between my legs and the way my heart flutters at his tone.
"Why do you care? Still concerned over the nobodies of this world?" Marvolo says, reaching for my arm.
"Depulso," Ominis says quickly.
Marvolo flies away from us, landing against the uptick of the road. Ominis moves in front of me, wand at the ready. I suck in a breath, my hand reaching for Ominis. I grip his sleeve as I pull my own wand out. Marvolo sits up, laughing like a madman. He stands and paces toward us before stopping to study us.
"You know her. She's with you tonight, isn't she?" He asks, an amused smile on his face like he's playing with a new toy.
"Clever as always, Marvolo. Took you about as long as I expected to realize." Ominis mutters as he straightens up, placing a hand on his hip.
