"Do you think they would be my friend too?" Pixie asked Brutus excitedly.

"Maybe," Brutus sighed, laying down on the carpet with a yawn.

Pixie trotted out the room, wandering around the house- and eventually into the garden. Her small ears lifted towards the voices next door, over the fence. There was a Pixie head sized gap at the bottom of the fence, and she glanced through it. "Helloo!" She called out, the new dog just in sight. "Hello?"

A large black nose blocked her vision, before Robin lowered herself to the grass. "Hello," she replied, eyeing the kitten curiously.

"I'm Pixie! Are you a german Shepard like Brutus?" She poked her head further through the fence, almost as if she planned on climbing through. "What's your name?"

"Mhm," Robin replied, not that she knew of this Brutus. She chuckled at the kitten's curiosity and fearlessness. "Robin."

A voice interrupted the two, "Robin!" It was Carl. "Dinner, Robin."

"It was nice to meet you Pixie, but my master is calling me." She smiled at the kitten, who smiled back.

"Bye, Robin!" Robin chucked, glad to know she had at least one pleasant neighbour at least.

Pixie bounded towards a sleeping Brutus, waking him abruptly. "I saw the new dog through the fence, Brutus! She really does look like you. She's called Robin!"

"I told you not to- never mind. That's nice," he sighed. The pair were interrupted by Tony, their master.

"You two better behave. I'm going next door to Carl's, he's got a retired military dog just like you, Brutus. I'll bring you two next time, hey?" Tony chuckled, slipping on a pair of worn in boots before stepping out the door. The two watched him leave, Pixie turning to Brutus excitedly.

"You hear that? We can go with him next time," she smiled, happily. "Maybe she'll be your friend too, Brutus."

"Sure, Kid." He hummed, picking up a bone and sitting by the back door. Pixie sat on his back, nestling into his fur.

A knock on the door briefly startled me out of my thoughts, and i sprung to my paws with a couple barks. "It's okay," Carl hushed me, and I followed him to open it. A man I wasn't familiar with greeted Carl, then came inside. I recognised the scent of the kitten i'd met behind the fence on him, along with the stronger scent of another canine.

The man I believe is called Tony crouched down. "Hey, girl. Aren't you pretty, hm?" He scratched beneath my chin. "How's she settling in?" The stranger turned to Carl, and they wandered through to the kitchen.

"It's quite a change but so far i think she's alright. Hey, Robin?" I placed my head on his knee under the table, and he gave me the end of a biscuit. "Her shoulder is healing up nicely, but it'll still be a while before she'll be back in shape." I didn't listen to much more of their conversation, and took myself out into the garden through the open door.

My claws clicked along the decking as I left the doorway, moving towards the sunlit grass. I managed to limp down the few steps at the end, emitting a sigh as i reached my spot. Just as I closed my eyes and began to drift of, a high-pitched, chirpy voice called out. I figured it was the kitten, Pixie. Though when i glanced at the gap in the fence, a large dark canid muzzle was in the kitten's place. Definitely not Pixie.
