The moon was barely visible tonight, making it eerily dark outside. No stars were visible too... It's almost as if the world was engulfed in darkness.
"Is that... Cesar?" Mumbling to yourself as you squint into the distance. You held the flashlight, your nails hitting your palm as you gripped it, tilting the item towards the familiar yet... Odd figure in the forest. The silhouette undoubtedly resembled a man. And that man stood so stiffly, almost fooling you to think it was a figment of your imagination... But no, you were certain it was alive.
The night was silent, besides the rustling of the wind and your breathing. Even the crickets were dead silent... Or were you too distracted by the loud beating of your heart?
A slight cold breeze passed by and you snapped out of your thoughts as you felt the hair on the back of your neck and arms rise, causing you to focus back on the man in the woods. The two of you stood there as if you were in a Western film standoff.
The more time passed, the beating of your heart quickens. You wonder if it could hear your ragged breathing, the loud pump of your heart, and the small gulp and peeps you made.
Quietly and wary, you initiated the first step and staggered on a rock but held your composure. A trivial thing such as doing a step felt like a struggle, due to the figure staring with such intensity at you. Its eyes were strikingly cold in contrast to your determination to believe that thing is your friend, Cesar.
You took another step. It didn't move. Maybe this is a prank? At 1 am...? No, that's uncharacteristic of him.
Taking this as a signal that it was... *safe*... You approached it fully without pausing each step as if you were sneaking over creaking floors but in this case, it's more like avoiding a landmine.
You were only a foot away from him, taking in a closer inspection of his face, it was indeed Cesar. Upon realizing this, you chuckled and inched closer until you were face-to-face with the man.
He looked... A bit strange? He was in his prom suit and there was something else but you couldn't place your head on it but at the same time, you didn't care.
Sighing out a breath of relief, you chuckled. It... Or rather, he stared at you and tilted his head ever so slightly in curiosity. "Cesar, what are you doing out here in the cold?" He made no response, opting to continue staring at you instead. It seemed like he was deep in thought with how he wouldn't blink.
You were concerned, he really seem to be thinking hard. With a frown, you raised your hands towards his face to cup his cheeks but, not even touching the skin, he jerked away which surprised you both. He quickly regained his composure, straightening his back and looking down at you. Wait-- Has he always been that tall?
Despite that, you continued your actions and cupped his face with your hands. His face felt soft and cold which you could guess due to him being outside for quite some time. You hold the urge to squeeze his cheeks there and then.
Softly smiling at your friend, you spoke, "Let's go inside. You might catch a cold out here." Both of your hands dropped to your side with one reaching for his wrist to bring him inside but he backed away. It left you confused and even more so when he started walking into the darkness of the forest.
You wanted to follow him... But amidst all of that interaction, he had taken your flashlight cheekily from your hands and you weren't risking getting lost in the forest this late... You just hope he's alright.
