"I will not leave you!" I cry in protest, my hands clenched around his.
"Analise, I love you more than anything, but you have to leave. You are a daughter of a Speaker, you are not safe here anymore!" Clyve says to me as the city explodes and shots fire right behind us.
Suddenly I hear him yelling, "get down" and in a flash I am on the ground beneath him as he shields me from the flying bullets and the shattered glass of the protective barrier - the very same barrier that was keeping me from the violence of the war behind me, and him safe and away from battle.
"Please... Analise, I can't have forever without you, and I can't help fight in this war unless I know you are safe. And even though I can barley stand being away from you for days let alone the possibility of years, I know you have to go for now, no matter how long that may be. All I know is that we will have our forever."
I stopped trying to defy his words and just held on tighter feeling his weight crush into me was comforting. I couldn't let go. I wouldn't let go, but I knew that he was right. I knew I wasn't safe in Authora, but I knew he wasn't either. And I couldn't leave him. However, I also knew that Clyve wouldn't let me stay and fight, he would fight for me instead. Ultimately, he couldn't possibly protect himself if he was also protecting me. He is a good fighter, but we all have our limits...and I wasn't willing to test his. Not this time. Not now. So I must go, I must leave for Earth even though it is the hardest thing I have ever had to do.
"Cylve please be careful..." I choke out the words, tears streaming down my face as I look into his eyes, his bright green eyes, they make my heart beat through my chest and my breath hitch.
"I will Ali, promise. I love you."
He takes me in his arms and holds me tight leaning his face down to mine. My lips meet his and it feels like it always has, home. Safety. But this time the kiss also holds something different, something scary, and unknown. Not goodbye, but fear. Fear of the time without each other, the time apart, the fear of danger and the possibility of never seeing each other again. We don't know how long this war will take, and no one has left the Realm before they've hit maturity, not before twenty-one.
The Hosts left their Realm of Patorea looking for power, Readers, and ultimately control over us. Readers fight back, we always do, but I have never seen anything like this before. I just hope it ends soon, because even though it just started, I wish it never began. For once I wish time was faster here, but it's not.
I deepen this kiss, holding onto this moment, his smell, his taste, his body. Him.
We break apart, panting and looking into each others eyes,
"Take this," I say in whispers, barley finding my voice. Reaching out I place in his hand my clock pendant necklace, "I know it's girly, but it will be a reminder that not amount of time between us will separate you and me, and it will keep you safe."
Clyve doesn't say anything, except place it around is neck and squeeze my hand, our fingers intertwine as he helps me up and over to the loading zone.
My Clyve. My life. My family, Authora, friends and everything that I am leaving behind, I could barley do it. But I knew I had to. Trembling I stepped into the transporter and had the guards set it for Earth, the safest, but most barbaric Realm known to us. Time passes so quickly there. One of our years was ten of theirs.
Initiating launch comes over the speakers, and the door beings to close, my hand still intertwined with Clyve's. I cannot let go.
"I love you!" and as I say it, he lets go and replies "Love you Allie," and the door shuts tight, sealing me into the round vehicle.
As I blast off into to universe towards my destination, the last image I see before disappearing into the unknown is that of Clyve walking into the battlefield and away from me, our forever now lying in the balance.
