Sometimes I felt like my life was moving at the speed of a bullet traveling in water. It was slow but fast. And there was definitely a wall at the end. And to be honest. I think I hit that wall pretty recently.
Everyone believes that my life is easy. I have the looks. The money. And the power of a hundred men at my command. It sounds easy, until your father takes control of those men and they follow you, they whisper your every move, and they calculate every penny I spend. All to report back to my papa.
Easy, yes. Annoying? More than you can imagine.
I rarely go out, because it's awkward dragging a tree sized man to a club full of underage drinkers and horny men, when he's dressed in all black, even the sunglasses, and that stupid communication piece on his wrist.
George is a sweet guy. He did well with protecting me, but he didn't fit in. The man had the shoulders the size of two blue whales. Like I'm not even joking, he has to turn side ways to walk through a door.
He also is no fun. He won't let me drink, dance, or even talk to someone I didn't enter the club with. Which... is understandable, but still.
"Isa, you okay?" My best friend, Eres, yelled over the loud music.
I looked toward her and gave a simple nod. My eyes bulged when she pushed her cup toward me. I knew what she ordered earlier. And she knew it was my favorite drink. A tequila sunrise. God, my mouth was practically watering at the thought of it.
I took the glass and brought it to my lips, waiting and eager for the delicious burn of the alcohol. But the cup was snatched from my hold by the one and only.
"You're underage. You know the rules." George loomed over me.
I rolled my eyes, "You're fired."
"You don't get to decide that."
The burly man went back to his corner and whispered into his cuff.
"I want to have some fun." I yelled at Eres.
Eres and I have been friends since forever. Her dad is my family's lawyer, so I would constantly have play dates with her when we were younger because our parents worked so closely together.
She gave me a mischievous look as she set her glass down and turned to George. "I'm taking her to dance. I won't let anything happen to her." And before he could object, she pulled me toward the middle of the dance floor and turned me around.
Eres was a professional dancer. So I really had nothing on her when she placed her hands on my hips and guided me to the rhythm of the music.
Some guys around us whistled at the sight. Others just stopped and stared. But we were having fun, so I didn't care.
She turned me around so we were facing each other and took my hands, holding them above our heads as we jumped and laughed.
Eventually, two guys nudged themselves against us. The one that took interest on me spun me around so his chest pressed into my back. He leaned down and kissed my earlobe, striking something in me that flared at gesture.
I pushed back and ground myself against him as he pulled my hips to his.
Fun. That's all it was.
I shifted to see Eres having fun with her guy. Or so I thought. She looked mad, but still swayed with him.
Then, as loud as the music was, I still was able to hear her gasp before she rammed her elbow back into the guy and shoved him off.
"Hey!" I said, shoving off my guy and going toward her. "What the fuck is wrong with you!" I stomped on his foot with my six inch stiletto.
"Come back, baby." Hands wrapped around my waist to hard to seem like fun.
I twisted in the other man's grip and drove my knee into his groin. He bent over and cupped his balls.
"You bitch!" He gained a few I ches and started toward me, but it was to late.
The entire club erupted in chaos at the sound of the gun being fired.
It was so loud but quiet enough that I was able to hear the shell bouncing on the floor.
I looked to my right and there stood George, smoking barrel, and hard face.
He didn't look at me. He didn't even acknowledge Eres who was now screaming beside me.
I looked down to the man practically curled up in a ball with a hole in his neck. A puddle of blood formed around him, now reaching my shoes.
"Let's go." George said angrily. He didn't wait to see if I would obey him, but he pulled my arm hard enough to snap me out of the daze I was in.
Eres was holding my arm so she was dragged along with me.
We were pushed into an SUV so quickly I narrowly missed hitting my head on the other door. Eres squished herself so close to me that I was almost sitting on top of her. She was trembling so much I'm sure she was shaking the car.
"What the fuck did you do?" I said coldly. George stared out into the road.
He sighed, "I had to."
"No. No the fuck you didn't. I had them under control!" I started to yell.
"Did you? Cause from the looks of it, that boy was about to grope you so hard you wouldn't even be able to scream for help. I saved your life."
I stayed silent. Not knowing what to do or say.
"I won't be on your detail for a while. So you better get used to arguing with someone who doesn't care."
"What do you mean?" I squeezed Eres' hand.
George looked at me through the mirror, "I will be evaluated. It's part of protocol for personal details."
"I will tell my father tha—"
"There is nothing you can do to stop it. It happens to all of us who've used a firearm while on duty. It's justified so I will be fine."
Tears swelled in my eyes. "And what about me?"
"Are you hurt?"
I shook my head.
"Then you will be fine as well. But there were to many people around tonight. I'd stay away from social media for the next few days."
I looked away from him and turned my attention to Eres. She stopped shaking, but her gaze was caught outside the window.
I put my arm around her shoulders and pulled her close to me. Brushing her hair back as she breathed heavily.
