I couldn't deny the flutter of anticipation mixed with apprehension that danced within me. Part of me was intrigued by the prospect of breaking free from my self-imposed rules and experiencing life in a different light. But another part of me—the rational part—warned me of the dangers that lay ahead.
"We're here!" Jungkook exclaimed, breaking the silence that had settled between us.
I looked around in confusion, scanning the area. "What do you mean we're here?"
A perplexed expression crossed my face as I took in the surroundings. We had been strolling along the pier for a few minutes, passing a couple of drunk teenagers stumbling towards a nearby portable toilet. However, there was nothing out of the ordinary in sight.
"You know I've been here before," I chuckled, trying to regain my composure. Confidence brewed within me, even though I had no idea what awaited us.
"Well, then I guess you can show me around," Jungkook suggested with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
I raised an eyebrow, brushing off my earlier cockiness. "Show you around? To what exactly?"
Ignoring my question, Jungkook leaned down and opened a nearby manhole. My eyes widened as he gestured to the ladder leading down into the unknown depths.
"No way I'm getting down there!" I exclaimed, my voice filled with both fear and incredulity.
I had mentally prepared myself for anything—an underground rave, an illegal poker game, or even a shady meet-up in a dark alleyway. But this mysterious entrance seemed far sketchier than anything I had anticipated.
"Don't spoil the fun, angel," Jungkook teased, his voice carrying a hint of amusement. It was as if he had expected this reaction from me.
"You're crazy! How do I know you won't kill me in there and harvest my organs?" I blurted out, my mind conjuring up the wildest scenarios.
Jungkook stood up, facing me directly, casually wiping his hand on his jeans. "Okay," he began, his tone becoming serious. "New ground rules."
I arched an eyebrow, awaiting an explanation.
He continued, counting off his fingers. "One, don't ask questions. Two, always say yes. And three, never talk to anyone I don't introduce you to. As long as you follow them, nothing will happen to you."
I gave him an unsure look, my skepticism still lingering. However, something about the intensity in his eyes made me reluctantly oblige. It frustrated me how easily he could manipulate me into doing anything.
Taking a deep breath, I tentatively made my way down the cold metal ladder. As I descended, the distant sound of music began to reach my ears. The adrenaline coursed through my veins, mingling with a sense of trepidation and curiosity.
One, don't ask questions. Two, always say yes. And three, never talk to anyone I don't introduce you to. I repeated in my mind, trying to calm my nerves.
I leaped off the ladder, my feet landing on solid ground. It was clear that I wasn't dressed appropriately for this unexpected adventure. But instead of the anticipated sewers, a dimly lit underground tunnel stretched out before me. I hurriedly followed behind Jungkook, the sounds of chatter and music growing louder with each step.
As we continued deeper into the tunnel, a sense of anticipation and excitement welled up within me. The air grew thick with an electric energy, and the flickering lights cast intriguing shadows on the walls. How the hell did he know about this place?
Finally, we arrived at our destination—a cavernous space that resembled a party scene straight out of a movie. Lights danced across the rough stone walls as people jumped to the music blaring against my eardrums.
Jungkook glanced back at me, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "Welcome to the underground," he shouted over the music, his voice barely audible amidst the boisterous crowd.
I could only nod in response, my eyes wide with awe and wonder. It was as if we had stepped into a hidden realm where the rules of the surface world no longer applied. This was a place where inhibitions were shed, where secrets were shared, and where the night held infinite possibilities.
Jungkook now turned to me, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Let's start off tame," he said, reaching into his jeans pocket and retrieving a black flask. He took a few sips before offering me the mysterious substance, a playful smile spreading across his face.
I wasn't much of a drinker. It wasn't that I couldn't handle my alcohol; rather, I knew that I didn't make the best decisions when intoxicated. I recalled a past incident when I had stumbled upon a stray cat in the dead of night, promptly named it Noodle, and ended up ordering a plethora of pet supplies on Amazon, only to wake up the next morning and realize I had mistakenly kidnapped my neighbor's Pomeranian from their lawn.
"Maybe I shouldn't—" I began, hesitatingly.
"Rule number two: Always say yes," Jungkook interrupted, a playful smirk tugging at his lips.
Damn him. I reluctantly accepted the flask from his outstretched hand and took a sip, bracing myself for the unknown concoction swirling within.
"Ew, what's in this?" I grimaced, wiping my mouth in disgust.
Jungkook's smirk deepened, a touch of darkness flickering in his eyes. "Absinthe," he revealed, his voice laced with a mixture of mischief and intrigue.
"What the hell, Kookie?" I exclaimed, a mix of surprise and frustration lacing my voice. "Why couldn't it have been brandy or vodka or something normal?"
He simply shrugged, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Normal is too predictable, Blair. We're here to break free from the mundane."
I crossed my arms and shot him a disapproving look. "Sometimes predictable means avoiding unnecessary chaos and regret."
He looked me up and down, his gaze filled with both amusement and challenge. "And since when did you become the queen of playing it safe?"
I rolled my eyes, nudging him playfully. "Come on, let's dance."
As the pungent taste of absinthe lingered on my tongue, an unexpected transformation began to unravel within me. The world around me seemed to shift and twist, as if reality itself had become a kaleidoscope of sensations. Colours became more vivid, imbued with a vibrant intensity that penetrated my senses.
The music that had once throbbed against my eardrums now seemed to weave itself into the very fabric of my being. Each note, each beat, resonated deep within, coaxing my body to move in synchrony with the pulsating rhythm. The energy of the crowd lingered in the air, electrifying the atmosphere and igniting a primal fire within my veins.
As the effects of the absinthe coursed through my system, a veil of inhibition was lifted, allowing a newfound freedom to wash over me. All my initial insecurity and Inhibitions faded away, replaced by an exhilarating sense of liberation.
"That's more like it," Jungkook laughed, his voice blending with the music as we danced closely, our bodies moving in perfect sync with the pulsating beat.
