Asphyxiation

There was nothing but despair in this damned world.

Nowadays, the scarlet embers and sparks were the only things you could see in such a blazing heat. The oxygen you breathe would leave a bitterness and agony through your lungs, all of that by one breath. This was his fault...

Nothing will end until he is gone...

A group of mechs arranged in front of the door. The wind was shrill, as if to tell the tales of a failure...

The metallic marches of these mighty metal soldiers sung throughout the area, their faces resembling the... beast... that enslaved and destroyed this world...

Underneath the cover of night, a third stood. His golden eyes gazed upon these mechs, examining them both. One misstep would cause his own capture, or worse. He had to do this without a single flaw. One less mech would send a message to him...

He placed his mask closer to his mouth, trying not to reveal too much about his identity, before the sound of a blade, digging deep into the hardened concrete of a wall. The golden eyes looked upon the metal junk in front of them.

Mech 1: unidentified slash in distance. Scan for identified slash. *leaves*

As the first Mech left to examine the cause of the sound, the other one stood there. It examined, before the golden eyes shut themselves, as a shadowy purple chameleon, wearing a bandana-like mask, half of his face with a dirty scar, leaped to the next building... the mech soon sensed the feeling, however.

Mech 2: *looks at the distance* Freeze, Citizen! You must not enter this far into the base of Ivo Robotnick! *aim's it's gun at the place where the strange chameleon leaped from*

The mech examined for the strange creature, when suddenly, a sudden blade entered the center of its wired neck. The silvery blades weapon soon slid across the mech's neck, thus cutting it right off. The chameleon looked on, his katana dripping with oil. It went according to plan.

This would hopefully send a message to the doctor.

The mech returned. The shuriken had been discovered, lodged into the cement wall of a building. But in his return, he located his mechanical brother, laying beheaded on the floor. If this was someone of flesh and soul, it would be a tragedy, a moment where it would have felt a feeling of vengeance and sorrow. But the mech was never programmed with these types of things.

All it could do was look... the doctor would know... he always knows...

The purple chameleon summoned his invisibility. He watched out for drones or mechs that searched for the 3 remaining chaotix, who had not been found at all.He snuck off, and entered into a hidden concrete house that was able to resist the undying embers... a place that he could escape the rule of this evil tyrant and protect his only family left. Some would even call it... home...

He entered the house, and saw a young bee, wearing a helmet, napping on the couch. This child... the last fragment of family he had left...

?????: *thinking* I'm glad you're okay... Charmy...

Slightly, he shook the youth awake, not too hard to the point of his body getting hurt, but light enough to awaken him.

Charmy: *slightly, half awake* eh? Oh... hey, Espio!

Espio: hey... I got more food supplies. *pulls out a bag, which had 3 cans of soup*

Charmy: soup again... I hate this. *slowly lifts the blanket, revealing his missing right leg*

Espio: *sighs* I know, but it's all I could gather up. *pats Charmy's head* Sorry.

Charmy: eh, it's fine. I just wish...

Espio: *hugs Charmy* I know. We'll get it back... soon...

Espio walked away. The flames danced higher, as he placed his cloak over his head, to seal away his identity. As he walked through the engulfed Metropolis, he looked closely at a photo...

They were gone. Except for him...

And the scarlet echidna there...
