I Can Save Them

Jamies pov:

I finally caught up to peter and the rest of the boys, they hadn't got that far ahead but i noticed danny was having a hard time climbing the steep path towards the plains.
"hey danny, wait a minute let me give you a piggy back ride" i said to him to which he smiled happily red in the face and obviously tired and so i knelt down so he could hop on my back and continued onto the path. When the rest of the boys saw me they all cheered except for peter who had a frown on his face. "jamie, he doesnt need carrying" peter said while glaring at danny, i frowned and knelt down so danny could get off "peter hes five, he cant keep up with us all because hes so much younger and smaller then us, give him a break, i dont think it was a good idea for him to come with us, this place isnt exactly safe" i complained to him as the other boys had ran further ahead, our aim was to get the the bear cave, "well dont expect me to coddle or care for him jamie thats your job" peter huffed and walked off, thats all he can do when he cant win an argument.

We get to the bear cave and i start to light a fire as it is quite cold i hand out water to all the boys and we all take a break before we start heading to the marking rocks, while we take our break i turn to talk to peter again but notice hes gone " hey has anyone seen peter??" i ask looking at the other boys who all shake their heads, danny crawls into my lap obviously tired, why peter brought him from the other world i will never know, hes too young to be here.

While we waited for peter to come back from whatever he was doing Sam decides to tell a story "this cave isnt just the home to a bear but what ive heard the neverbeast's use this cave to keep their young so when weary travelers venture inside BAM! they get EATEN!!" he yells which scares the other boys, Tom yelps as Tod grabs him, Jac jumps and poor Danny screams." sam thats enough dont scare them nothing is going to happen boys im here" i say attempting to comfort them but it did very little, it was dark outside by now, stars in the sky and the fire was slowly dying, "wheres peter??" Danny asks in a tired voice while the others voice their concern as well, i shake my head and say "i dont know boys.... Stay here im going outside to find him" i stand up and move Danny onto Jacs lap and slowly walk outside the cave with my sword strapped to my hip.

I couldnt see anything it was so dark, i looked to my right towards the plains and i could of sworn i saw many eyes staring back, i shake my head and decide to continue looking for Peter, i walk towards the marking stone when i hear peters voice "Peter?!" i yell while watching the floor incase i trip, i look up and there he was right infront of me "PETER! Dont do that!! How did u get so close without making a sound??" i question while trying to slow my beating heart, peter just laughs "sorry love didnt mean to scare you" he says i sigh and look up to his face, he was smiling so wide it reached his ears.... I always loved his smile but expecially his eyes, how when he laughed they twinkled and shined like a thousand stars " come on peter we've all been waiting for you! Where did you go??" i questioned as we started walking back towards the bear cave "oh you know, just for a walk no need to worry jamie" he says bumping into me i grin back but freeze suddenly "Jamie whyd you stop?" peter asks tilting his head to the side in confusion, i put my finger to my mouth and shush him as i point ahead of us, on the path i see it, a Neverbeast a huge creature with the head of a lion, scales on its sides that act as armour, spikes sticking up from its back, large elephant like feet but with sharp claws at the end and a long spiked tail with a single poisonous spike at the end that could kill you in seconds. Peter nods to me to let me know hed seen it too he reaches for his sword as i do the same, he lifts his hand holding up three fingers and he puts one down as he mouths 'one, two' and then finally he yells "THREE!!!" we both run towards the beast ready to strike it in its only weakspot its stomach peter goes ahead to distract it while fighting off its poisonous tail while i slide underneath it with my sword pointing towards its stomach and i push my sword forward into its stomach slicing it open once its done i scramble out from underneath and grab peters hand running towards the bear cave " Jamie slow down whats the rush?" he asks as i drag him with me "PETER! Dont be an idiot if that was the mother then shes left her child near the bear cave!!" i yell as i keep tripping in my rush to get to the boys, to make sure they are safe peter huffs but continues to come with me anyway.

We eventually reach the cave and what i feared was true, there the boys were fighting a young neverbeast, it might be young but its just as dangerous but it doesnt have its protective armour of scales and so i run towards it not bothering with my own safety and stab it in its side. Panting i look towards the boys Jac is checking on Danny making sure hes not injured as Tom and Tod do the same for each other, i then realise i cant see Sam anywhere "Boys where is Sam?" i ask panting trying to catch my breath, my heart drops when i see them all look down sadly "in there" Tod says pointing towards the cave as his brother Tom starts crying, i run into the cave to see Sam on the floor wriggling around in pain panting with a large gash on his arm that has purple streaks threw his veins and i realise, hed been poisoned by the neverbeast, " no no no Sam come on stay with me sam!" i say as i run towards him kneeling down by his head stroking his dark brown hair while tears start to drip from my eyes onto his cheek " hey jamie.... Im alright... I promise, look after the others alright and..... Dont.... Forget... Me" he says smiling and then... He takes his last breath, i start to sob but cover his face with his brown jacket he always wears. I walk out of the cave to the boys " what happened" i ask as Danny runs to me and hugs me so i hug him back " the neverbeast just ran in and tried to attack Danny so Sam jumped infront and tried to attack it but ended up getting hit by its tail, we had all ran outside on his orders and then we heard him scream and the neverbeast came running out then you both arrived" Jac said sniffling while looking down, i knew he felt guilty for what had happened so i said " dont blame yourself, there was nothing you could of done Jac" i hugged him as i said that turning to look at peter who had a frown on his face and had his arms crossed "peter can we go home now, ill come back for Sam in the morning to burry him" i said as all the boys hug me obviously scared, Peter nods, huffs and says " i suppose now our funs been ruined" he turns and starts walking the path back home, i stare at his back in shock at what hed just said but push the boys forward "go on boys follow peter ill be right behind you and Jac look after Danny for me please" i said, i watched them all start walking Danny looking back at me every few second, when theyd gone out of sight i start the task of pushing a boulder infront of bear cave, i didnt want another neverbeast wandering in and getting to Sam, Sam didnt deserve that, he didnt deserve what happened to him.

Once id pushed the boulder infront of the cave entrance i make my way down the path, once i reach the camp i check on the boys making sure they are safe and tucked in, Tom and Tod are huddled next to each other, jac is curled up in his sleeping bag and jamie is lying next to Jac seeking comfort, i go over to Danny kissing his forehead whispering goodnight and walk out of his and Jacs tent. Now for peter, i walk towards his tent seeing the light still on "peter can i talk to you?" i ask hearing him agree i walk in, hes on his bed shaping a piece of wood into a creature, he does that alot "peter you put all the boys in danger tonight" i say with my arms crossed glaring at him, peter looks at me with a blank expression on his face " whatever do you mean jamie?" he asks, this really annoys me, how could he not know? "Peter you knew just as well as i do that going that close to the plains at night is too dangerous and so because we waited for you Sam died! Peter its not right, Danny shouldn't of even been there and quite frankly none of us should of, ive told you before not to risk the boy's lives just for fun! " i yell not caring if i anger him, ive been here longer then anyone and therefore i know peter better " it was just a bit of fun jamie but if it bothered you so much then fine, we wont go near the plains when the sun is setting, happy?" he asks standing up so hes towering above me "very" i say turning around to walk out when he grabd my wrist turning me back around "what?" i ask staring up at him, he just grins his eyes twinkling and says " you forgot to say goodnight" in a singsong voice, i sigh closing my eyes for a second "good night peter" i whisper hoping it will get him to let me go but then he leans down whispers "good night love" in my ear and then finally lets go, i all but fled from his tent to mine hearing him laughing behind me, as i crawl into bed i really really wish today had been a dream because if not im scared for what tomorrow will bring, that was my last thought before i fell asleep.

Hi evergone sorry for the late update ive been busy and stressed because of exams but inspiration hit and i had to write, ive added a map of neverland and the boys heights too two chapters just incase you wanted to see what i pictured for the boys, if you guys have any suggestions for other books i can write or just anything for me then that would be great, i will make a schedule for when i write and publish but i really dont want to discontinue this book, if that ever does happen i will let you know but hopefully it doesnt, hope you all enjoyed this new chapter and i hope to see you all again in chapter four, this is just the beginning of the story there is more to come see you soon!
