The Hybrid

Chapter 2: Memories

1st POV

I walk over to the building and immediately know what it is. I stare in disbelief that I'm here, it's here. "My home" I say quietly, slightly shaking. "It's still here... Even after the invasion..." I then get flashbacks of the invasion. I was 9 and Jaz was 6, we were playing in the forest when I all of a sudden felt a horrible sting in my ankle. A cat bit me! It then ran away. "Ow!" I shout. "Atlas! What happened! We need to get mom!" I hear my brother shout. "Nonononono. It's fine! Let's just walk back to the cabin." I say shakily, trying to stay calm to not worry Jaz. "okay." I hear Jaz say quietly. We get into the cabin and I clean and wrap my ankle. "Mom is still collecting firewood so it's just us in here." I hear Jaz say. I nod my head and head to my room.

I sit on my blanket and draw in a notebook when all of a sudden I feel something fluffy appear on my head. Then I felt the same feeling near my butt. I then look next to me and see a tail. "Uh... what is this..." I say to myself as I grab the tail. "OW" I shout. "HOLD UP WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK" I shout again. My brother must've heard my shouting because he bursted into my room. "OMG YOU ARE A CAT?!" Jaz shouts. "YEAH I GUESS SO!" I shout back. We hear the front door open. "Hey kids, I'm back!" Mom says. Jaz grabs my hoodie and puts it on my head. "Are you going to tell mom?" He asks worriedly. "At some point I will." I answer as I get up. Jaz and I then ran over to mom "Hi mom!" My brother and I say in sync. "I just got done collecting wood." Mom starts. But then she noticed my hood. "Take that hood off! It's way too hot today to be wearing that." She says as she takes off my hood. "Agh!" I say. Mom then stares in disbelief. "Oh.. My... Gods..." She says.

Then all of a sudden we hear booming outside. "Mom! What was that!?" Jaz cries. "I'm not sure..." mom whispers. I quickly put my hood back on my head, in fear. BAM. the door flings open. "WHERE IS THE HYBRID" A hunter man shouts. None of us answer, we just stare in shock. I opened my mouth to talk, but no words came out. "None of you are talking, so I may as well kill you all!" He shouts. "No!" I shout. He shoots my mom in the leg. "MOM!" I cry with tears in my eyes. I run to her as she falls over. "Keep your brother safe." She manages to say. Her skin turned cold, as I cried. I wipe my tears, then stand. "Don't. You. dare. Touch. Jaz." I say, trying to seem calm, but failing. "That's not going to stop me, little kid." the man says as he shoots jaz, who now falls to the ground in a thud. "NO! JAZ!" I run to him, holding him in my arms, then I look at the man with tears growing in my eyes again as he aims his gun at my head. Right when he was about to pull the trigger, another man stomps in. "Boss said it's a different spot. Let's go." The first man nods, then stomps away from us, out the door.
