Chapter 3- The Rules

I sat down and read what was in the guidebook. To my surprise, it wasn't an actual book. it was some type of small tablet.

It had everyone's names, photos, and ultimates (Karol's photo being crossed out.) It also had the rules on it, and some other things, like, "Keep your door locked and don't let anyone in, or else your risk of death will go up!" not like that wasn't already obvious. It also said that only the girl's bathrooms lock. I don't know why I'd need to know that, but it might become handy. 

Surprisingly, I actually managed to get a few hours of sleep. I had a pretty bad nightmare though. It showed everyone around me dead, and me about to be. I don't want to get into detail, because I really don't want to relive that again. 

I walk out to the cafeteria. When i get there, i see Rosa, Lake, James, Connor, and Riya already there. 

"Oh, hey Aiden!" Rosa says with a wave. "I'm making some pancakes for everyone. Do you want your with anything extra, like peanut butter or chocolate chips?"

"Chocolate chips please, and thank you!" I say to her. Wow, she's really nice. Her daughter is lucky to have her as a mom. 

I sit down at one of the tables. Then, James comes up to me. 

"Hey, what's up dude?" He asks.

"Nothing. Just woke up. Suprised so many people are up this early." I say back.

"Well, a few of us just stayed up all night. I was still trying to get service." He says, looking down at his phone. "Can't believe there isn't any here. Anyways, i'm glad you came in here. Rosa's been busy cooking and talking to Land, or whatever her name is, and the actress has been playing chess with Connor, so I haven't had anyone to talk with."

"I guess everyone's just sticking with one person i guess." James and i continue to talk. We suddenly hear someone fall. 

I look over to see Yul. He groans as he gets up and walks to one of the tables. 

"well, well, well. It looks like the dancer tried to bust a move, but nearly busted his kneecaps instead," James says, laughing. I and a few others laugh too. 

"Haha so hilarious." Yul groans. " I got no sleep at all. I feel like a zombie."

"You're not the only one," Riya says. She has eye bags so heavy they look like they could carry groceries. And i mean the heavy kind, like milk and laundry detergent.

"Yeesh, you look terrible. Should've put on makeup or something." Riya rolls her eyes and goes back to playing chess with Connor.

Maggy comes in next

"Hey Maggy! I'm making pancakes for everyone, would you like anything extra on yours?" Rosa asks the tall girl

"No thank you. Shouldn't we try and preserve the food? We don't want to run out..."

"Don't worry, the puppet came in here earlier and told me that everything gets re-stocked every day." Rosa tells her.

"Wait, the puppet told you?" I ask, confused. 

"Yep, just popped up out of nowhere. It kind of caught me off guard heh." Rosa continued to cook while everyone else got to the cafeteria.

The pancakes were amazing! Rosa is a REALLY good cook. I hope she can continue to cook for us. Someone would have to be a monster to kill someone as amazing as her.

oh yeah...
Karol...

I thought back to what happened to her yesterday. She was definitely annoying but she never deserved to die. I felt my eyes water a bit.

"Hey, what's wrong? Are you ok?" James asks me.

"I... I'm fine. It's just..." I pause. "What if we never get out of here? What if we're all stuck, and the only way to get out is to kill. I mean, that's what the doll said." I'm full-on crying now.

James puts his arm around me. "It's okay. Don't worry, I don't think anyone will resort to that. I sure wouldn't anyways. And even if they do, we'll figure them out. I know it."

I looked at him. His expression looks genuine. I smiled. "Thank you."
