PROLOGUE

It was a normal Monday in San Francisco, The school bell rang and the students rush to their assigned classes from their class schedule. Two girls were still at their locker grabbing their books.

One of them is Y/n L/n, a 15-year old born and raised in San Francisco. She has H/c hair and a beautiful E/c eyes, She loves reading, lots of kids in her grade called her 'the reader' she reads every time she can.

Her best friend is Katy, whom people dosen't like much. She still dosen't know why but she still sticks with Katy, that made people avoid Y/n because she is friends with her.

Y/n grabbed her books from her locker, she closed it and starting to walk to her best friend which is staring at a picture of her favorite band in her locker, Y/n sighed and rolled her eyes at the girl and touches her friends shoulder.

“We gotta go to class Katy, the bell rang like two minutes ago”, Y/n spoke looking at the other girl. Katy hummed as she grabs her book then closes her locker but still was looking at the picture for a couple of seconds before it.

Once the girls enter the classroom they went to sit in the back row of the class, they like it that way because they believed that the teacher won't see them talking and not pay attention in class if they sat there. It worked loads of time, until today.

“Y/N L/n and Katy Chen”, The teacher, Mrs. Ridley called the girls while clearing her throat. They froze at the sudden call and turned to the teacher slowly. “Y-yes Mrs. Ridley”, Katy choked out as they are both nervous and scared, You see.. Mrs, Ridley is most known to be the meanest and most strict teacher, so why did they still talk in class? Because they're always like that.

“Are you girls aware of the 'no talking while the teacher is talking' rule, hmm?”, The teacher asked slowly walking forward to the students because she was beside the whiteboard before that, She gave Katy and Y/n a look that made them want to run out of the class right there.

Fortunately for them, a boy ran into the room before the teacher could to anything worse to them, “I-i'm so sorry I'm late-”, The boy stated, panting from all the running. He walked to the teacher with a guilty look on his face.

The boy had a short black hair, he was wearing a red and yellow hoodie with a short sleeved jean jacket outer and his bag hanging around his shoulders.

The teacher went from a cold frown to a shiny bright smile in just one second and greeted the boy, “Ah! You must be the new student, come, come”, she gestured for the boy to stand in front of the class and stand next to her.

She then places her right hand on the boy's shoulder and smiles at the class, “Everyone, this boy is a new student. Please treat him well”, the teacher says. “Go on and introduce yourself, kid”

“Hello, My name is Shan- Shaun. Shaun Jackson and I just moved here”, The boy spoke, Y/n can tell that he didn't know what to say, and he was nervous from the way he puts his hands into the pockets of his jacket and the way he gave them all tight smiles.

“ 'Say nice to meet you Shaun' Everyone!”, The teacher shouted from behind Shaun. “Nice to meet you Shaun”, All the students say at the same time, “okay Shaun welcome to the school and now you can take a seat”, Mrs. Ridley says to Shaun as she pats his shoulder and then turned back to whiteboard.

The boy walked through the class with his head down and hands still in his jacket pocket, He took a seat next to Y/n and Katy. Y/n looked at the boy and smiled, “hi”, she greeted him.

Shaun looked around for a moment then pointed to himself with a questioning look, The h/c girl chuckled and then said, “Yes you! Hi”, Shaun smiled awkwardly, “hey”, he said before he turned back to the teacher. Yes, He is aware of the 'no talking while the teacher is talking' so he tried to not make the conversation long.

Moments after that small conversation they had a folded paper flew into Y/n's table, she looked at it curiously then she picked it up and opened it to see;

What's your name?
- Shaun (I'm beside you) ;)

Y/n chuckled quietly and turned to her left to the boy beside her who was pretending not to see her looking at him, of course, he failed that because he turned to her for one second but realized she was looking at him, so he looked back to the teacher.

The girl took a pencil in her pencil case and write an answer to the boy's question on the same paper;

Y/n, Y/n L/n. You know we could just whisper this right?
- the girl beside you

She smiled to herself as she folds the paper and carefully put the paper next to her left foot and drag it next to Shaun's feet, their feet touches for a moment making Shaun's eyes go wide looked down at his feet, confused.

He looked at his feet and smiled knowingly, he took the paper next to his feet and opened it. His smile went wider, and he starts to take another piece of paper from his notebook, Y/n glanced at him curiously as he moved his hands and write something.

He quickly folds it and throws it to her table, it made a kinda loud sound and it made the teacher stop and turned to them. When she turned all she sees is some students sleeping, some taking notes and some just paying attention, including Y/n and Shaun.

The teacher just scoffs and turned back to the whiteboard, Y/n let out a relieved sigh and opened the paper;

Yeah, but I saw the 'no talking' thing when I walked in here, so I don't want you getting in trouble and I don't want to get in trouble because I just came here a few hours ago

Y/n smiled and rolled her eyes, new kids she thought in her head, She takes her pencil again and write her answer. She folded the paper after she finished writing, and she then pass the note to the black-haired boy.

Shaun glanced at the girl for a second but sees her just listening to the teacher, he just looked back to the paper and opened it;

Just chill new kid, it's going to be just fine if you get in trouble. You see, Mrs. Ridley has a SOFT spot when new kids come so you will probably just get a cold stare

Just as Shaun was about to answer her note he hears the teacher telling them to write notes from the whiteboard, so he just sighed and kept the note in his pocket.

Y/n who was looking at Shaun saw that, so she started to grab her notebook and pencil too, a silent 'psst' came from beside her as she took notes from the whiteboard. She recognizes the little whisper as her best friend, so she answers, “What is it, Katy”. Without looking at her.

“I saw the passing notes and those glances, are you finally gonna have your first-ever boyfriend?”, Katy whispered to her friend teasingly with a smirk. Y/n once again rolled her eyes at her comment. “No, I was just trying to make new friends”, Y/n answers her eyes still on the whiteboard.

Katy raised her eyebrows in suspension and nodded, "sure sure", Katy said as she also continued taking notes. A few moments went by and Katy started to whisper to her friend again, “I think he's kinda cute”.

That made Y/n stop for a moment and furrowed her eyebrows at Katy, “who?”, Y/n asked. It's Katy's turn to roll her eyes at her best friend, “The new boy duh”, Katy said raising her eyebrows at the E/c eyed girl.

“I think he's a sweet guy but cute? I don't know, he doesn't look like my type”, Y/n shrugged her shoulders and went back to taking her notes once again, Katy was just testing her, but she knew that something is going on or will be something going on.

But little did they know, that boy is going to be their closest and best friend they will have.
