II. TWO

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰

THE CORTEZ HOUSE was almost spiraling. The smoke detector had been going off due to a burnt pop tart that Miguel had decided to toast for 5 minutes instead of 1, their mother was still in the shower, causing Gabby having to brush her teeth in the kitchen sink, and their father couldn't find the car keys. "Where is it?" He kept asking himself.

"Did you check your front pocket?" Miguel asked his father, as he packed his backpack for the day. His father hummed in response. "Your back pocket?" Gabby questioned, coming down the staircase ready for her first day of high school. She tried not to trip over her bootcut jeans as they were too long for her own good.

Xander checked his back pocket, hearing the jingle of his car keys easing his mind. "Ready?" He asked his twins, grabbing his work bag along with his mug of coffee. "Ready." They groaned in response.

"First day of school, and you three are already late," Maya Cortez said, strutting down the stairs dressed for the day. Her natural straight hair was now curled to perfection, which anyone would envy.

"Class doesn't start till 7:30." Gabby said to her mother, as she checked the time. It was only 7:12. "If your there on the exact time, you're late. If your there before the exact time, you're on time. Remember that," the young mother instructed to her children, kissing both of their foreheads as a sign of good luck.

"Make good choices."

And then they were off.

Orientation was only a week ago, and Gabby was questioning how they had forgotten their way around the large high school so quickly. "We're lost," she sighed out, as they circled back to hallway they've walked through for the third time. Miguel nodded his head in agreement. "We are not lost, okay, trust me," MJ said. They were lost.

The hallways were clear of any sign of human life form as mostly all students were already in their classes. The trio had gotten lost while trying to find their Spanish 1 first period class. "MJ, we're lost." Miguel said. The blonde sighed in defeat.

"So, I usually start off my tours with a little history and context." A familiar voice speaks up, causing the trio to bolt in that direction. "Betty!" The blonde exclaimed at the sight of his older sister. "MJ? Miggy? Gabby? Wait- why aren't you three in class?" The sophomore questioned the young group of teens.
