Chapter 9

Kai

I wake up and feel a heat source against me.  When I open my eyes I see Emma lying next to me.  Then I remember she woke me up last night and asked if she could sleep with me.  Of course I would have said yes.  She is now sleeping peacefully.  Like a princess.  I don't really want to wake her up but I know we have to be ready for this day.

"Emma."  I say and shake her gently.  "Hm."  She opens her eyes and looks at me.  "Hey Kai. I just dreamed about you."  she says and smiles softly.  I try not to blush.  Then Emma looks around her.  "We're still not home."  she mutters.  "I'm sure mom and dad will be here soon okay."  I say and tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.  She nods softly.  Then we hear a buzzer go off which startles us both.  Then we hear a click at the door.  They unlocked automatically.  Time for breakfast and then training, Simon had said.  "Come on, we need to get dressed."  I say and sit up straight.  Emma sighs softly and also sits up.  Then suddenly she chuckles.  "We look like mom and dad. Out of bed because we have to go to work."  I chuckle too.

A second buzzer sounds.  "Let's go. Simon said if we didn't get to breakfast on time we wouldn't get any breakfast at all."  I say and we get out of bed.  We put on our training clothes.  And I help Emma tie her shoes.  "Kai?"  Emma asks.  I look up to her.  "Is it because of mom and dad that we're locked up now. Because they saved the world?"  I shake my head as I tie in the last knot and stand up straight.  "They have us because they think we're special."  "Are We Special?"  "Mommy says everyone is special in their own way."  I say and shrug my shoulders.  "You are always special to me."  Emma says and grabs my hand.  A warm feeling goes through my body.

I take Emma to the room where the others are already having breakfast.  Nova is back in place with her chessboard and her wolf lying under the table.  When we've picked up our breakfast, something in my mind tells me to sit with her again.  But I don't want her to laugh at me again.  Or that Emma thinks I don't want to sit with her.  So I decide to sit with Emma, ​​Simon and the rest.

After half an hour another buzzer goes off and Simon says that we have to stand on the black line in a row next to each other and that you have to look straight ahead.  So we do.  A few seconds later we hear a door slam and Drake comes in front of us.  "Ready for a new day my children?"  "Yes Master Drake."  Say all the children except Emma and me.  "Good."  He says and his eyes go to all faces.  His gaze stops when he looks at Emma.  "We're going to test our new diamond. Let's see if she's as powerful as her parents."  He says and grins lightly.  I look at Emma.  She is strong because she trained with her father.  But I don't know if it will be enough for the assignments Drake has in mind.

Then he looks at the rest again.  "10 laps and then you continue your training."  "Yes Master Drake."  Everyone says again and suddenly everyone starts running.  "Come on, we have to run 10 laps."  Simon says and he grabs Emma's hand and pulls her along.  She starts running with him.  I stop in surprise and watch Emma run away.  She doesn't even look back for a second.  To me.  "Kai."  Nova says as she skips past me with a playful smile.  "If I were you, I'd run. Otherwise she'll catch you."  She says and she nods to what's behind me.  I look back and I'm startled when her wolf growls menacingly at me with teeth bared.  "Run little boy. Run."  Nova giggles and she starts running herself.  I start chasing after the rest as soon as possible.  The wolf trots right behind me.

Everyone is a lot faster and in better shape than me.  Emma trained a lot with her father.  I only ran for fun and it shows.  While everyone has already finished their 10 rounds, I'm still working on the 6th.  Only I am exhausted and I trip over my own feet.  I fall to the ground and can protect my head with my arms.  I slowly look up and see that almost all the children are laughing at me.  Then I see Simon say something in Emma's ear that makes her laugh.  I look away and try not to cry.  Cool guys don't cry.
