I sat down on my couch, looking at my phone's news feed.
"Announcements regarding MagTech's hit game M.kiansei."
I clicked the article, eyes widening. I'd only played the game for a few hours - and none of those were within the last few months. But still, full server shutdown?
"Frick," I said to myself, deciding to avoid the comments of the article. I clicked the video that the CEO had released.
"In the last two decades, M.kiansei has become one of the most popular games in the world," Amos said, standing on a stage. "But in the last three years especially, there have been more and more issues with each update. We've been DDoS'd, several users have become the targets of hackers, and even outside of that, the server costs to keep the systems running have begun to grow exponentially."
He sighed slightly. "So, effective at midnight tonight, M.kiansei will be shutting down."
He paused, letting the audience gasp and call out at him.
"I know. I've spent my life working on this game. We will be releasing a..." he sighed again. "This sounds dumb, but you will still be able to download a singleplayer client, for whatever that's worth."
Another pause, this one met by much more mixed reactions - cheers, gasps, boos, and I'm pretty sure I heard someone yell the F word.
"I know. I'm working on figuring out a way to keep things up for everyone..." He said. "But please keep track of your accounts! We'll make sure that you all are kept in the loop... and, future projects will take-"
I closed the video - it's not really my thing anymore, honestly. I was amazed that they were shutting down M.kiansei, but it didn't really surprise me too much.
I glanced outside, then at the clock. It was late, and I didn't want to end up sleeping in too much tomorrow.
I turned off the lights in my apartment, and shut the door to my bedroom, laying down.
