Daniel tells the principal, who happens to be Ashton's aunt, about the situation, but nothing is done. However, we see Daniel and Ashton graduate fifth grade and prepare to go to separate middle schools. As they say their goodbyes, they both feel a sense of relief that the nightmare is finally over. Miss Robinson's harassment has stopped and Ashton physical abuse has stopped too, and they can finally move on from the trauma they experienced. They both feel a sense of hope for the future and are excited for the new opportunities that await them in middle school. The war is over, and they can finally leave the past behind.
