Chapter 6

Carter was convinced that the necklace was cursed, as there seemed to be no other explanation. Whenever he took it off, the mysterious fires ceased. Determined to rid himself of the necklace, he attempted to throw it away. However, no matter where he discarded it, the necklace would always reappear unharmed. Frustrated and unsure of what to do, he contemplated the childhood legend of elemental spirits, dismissing it as a mere bedtime story from his mother.

Then, one day, a letter appeared on his door, as if someone had been listening to his grievances or, perhaps, he was being stalked. Perplexed, he brought the letter inside and cautiously opened it. Written in elegant cursive font, it read:

"Dear Carter,
Since you were but a child, your mother whispered tales of spirits and legends in your ear. Little did she know that those stories were more than mere words. The necklace you wear carries the essence of flames, an elemental power that flickers within you. Fan the flames of your curiosity, for there are others who possess different elemental abilities. Seek them out, and let the legend become your reality.
Ever watchful,
A friend from the shadows.

P.S. Join me at Mystic Haven, a quaint café nestled by the river in Virginia, this Saturday at 4:00 P.M. Follow the enclosed address."

Carter stared at the letter, contemplating his options. Should he call the police or take a leap of faith and meet this mysterious person? How could they know about the stories from his childhood or his address? Yet, if the necklace truly possessed magical powers and someone ensured he received it, they must have some knowledge about him. Moreover, the letter mentioned others facing similar problems. Perhaps the risk was worth it.

However, doubts plagued his mind. Missing a day of school and a few days of work (since he worked on weekends) would have its consequences. He needed time to weigh the potential benefits against the risks. After much deliberation, Carter decided to sleep on it, resolving to make a final decision in the morning when his mind was refreshed and clear.

Since witnessing the pillar rise from the ground, Stephanie's focus had shifted to unraveling the mystery behind the hair clip.
