Samantha was 17 and in her final year at West Medow High. She hadn't been that interested in dating ever since the incident. It never occurred to her she was anyone's object of affection but in the eyes of Jess Golderwood she was everything. She hadn't quite noticed it till some time had passed and her best friend Lilly Elger had pointed it out.
"You know he stares a lot right." Lilly said one day during the beginning of lunch hour.
Samantha shifted against the wall. Trying to make perfect eye contact with him from across the crowded lunch room and as she did she smiled to herself.
"It's probably not me, it's probably you."
Lilly laughed. "Oh please girl he's not my type, but he seems like yours and if you talk to him or he talks to you maybe you can set me up with Robbie."
The dazzled smile fluttered to Lilly's face as she pictured herself walking hand in hand with Robbie down the hall. Samantha caught full attention to Lilly's disappearance from the reality and spoke.
"You'd like that wouldn't you? No don't answer that. If he wants to talk he'll talk."
Lilly adjusted her glance so she could look right at Jess and decided on her friends behalf to give him an intimidating glare. Jess glared right back and both girls giggled leaving the lunch room. In the clear Samantha took a seat on the stairs headed up to second balcony and rested her head on her friends shoulder.
"I don't even think I'm ready to date and he's probably experienced."
Lilly comforted Samantha and in silence they stayed for sometime.
"You know maybe your not, but maybe this is your chance to get out of your comfort zone and be someone for once. Wouldn't you rather live on the edge of life then playing it safe so you won't get hurt? Because sure your going to get hurt but I don't think Jess has that in mind for you. I think he wants to love you. I think he wants to wake up next to some amazing girl who isn't a mistake like the others."
Samantha moved her head off Lilly's shoulder and looked her right in the eye.
"So your saying he's probably had sex before?"
Lilly shrugged. "Maybe but I'm saying to drop your wall. Let it go it's been a year Samantha, Ryan is not coming back."
