Roane peddled until his legs nearly gave out. His heart raced with each downward push. Cresting the hill, he stood on the pedals, letting out a great, "WooHoo!" 

He leaned low over the handlebars, the wind chilling his skin. He was single-mindedly engaged in his downward plunge. He didn't notice the box truck reversing out of the driveway ahead.

Suddenly, the screeching "beep, beep, beep" of the truck reversing caught his attention.

He was too close, too fast. 

He gripped his breaks tightly.

He breathed deeply, cursing his fate as his bike careened into the side of the truck.
