Peter Parker was fascinated by magic. Always has been, always will be. Whether it was real or fake, he loved it.
Growing up, it always interested him. He had distinct memories of going to his old friend, Harry's, birthday party, where his dad had hired a magician. The mindless party tricks the man did drew Peter in and before he knew it, Harry's birthday was forgotten and Peter stared aimlessly at the man and his tricks in wonder and awe.
From that moment on, he spent all his time learning simple tricks of the eye to show all his friends. Of course, everyone loved it. When they were in 1st grade, that is.Whenever Peter got the chance, he would attend a magic show. After the death of his parents, Ben and May took him to a magic show to cheer him up. He got magic lessons at age 10. After Ben's death, Peter took up magic as a "full-time-hobby" to distract himself from his guilt.
But of course, it was just fake magic. There was no actual magic going on, they were just tricks, illusions.
But then he met Loki, Wanda, and Dr. Strange and he damn near passed out. He knew, from the moment he laid eyes on the three, that he would get them to teach him magic, no matter what he had to do to convince them.
It took him a while, but one day he finally brought up the courage to ask them to teach him.
Of course, he had done his research, and read up on the trio, so he knew that Loki and Wanda were born with their magic, not taught it, so going to either of them first would be a bust.
So he went to the wizard first.
"Dr. Strange, sir?" Peter said quietly, peeking his head into the living room, where he knew Stephen would be.
"Mr. Parker," Stephen had responded. Peter smiled a bit, stepping completely into view of the magic do-er.
"Uhm, I have a strange request," Peter said. Stephen gestured for him to continue and Peter felt his nerves get the best of him.
"Can- Are- I was," Peter started. He paused and took a minute to organize his thoughts.
"Is there any way you can teach me magic?" Peter asked. There was a beat of silence before Peter dipped his head, pulling out a deck of cards.
"Other- other than-" He quickly did a small card trick- "y'know?" Stephen raised an eyebrow at the boy.
"You should show Scott that trick," Stephen mumbled, earning a smile from Peter, before continuing.
"You already have powers, why do you need the Mystic Arts?" Stephen asked. Peter moved his head in thought.
"Well, my magic tricks are only, well, tricks, there's no actual magic to them. I always used magic as an escape and doing the same thing over and over gets repetitive and boring," Peter explained softly.
"You're not gonna get any less repetition out of the Mystic Arts Peter, I hope you know that," Stephen said. Peter groaned, growing frustrated.
"My tricks are fake. Your magic is real. Real," Peter responded. Stephen took a breath.
"If you do really well in school this semester, I'll take you to the Sanctum Sanctorum over winter break to learn if you would like," Stephen offered, face softening. The offer was worth it as Stephen watched Peter's face morph into a joyous look.
"Oh- Oh my god thank you, sir," Peter stumbled out, jumping out of the living room. Stephen chuckled, watching him leave.
That semester Peter worked harder than he ever had in his life before. And in the end, he ended up ace-ing all of his classes. A+ in each. Pretty damn impressive. I wish my grades looked like that.
