This was inspired while I was rewatching the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, enjoy!
You were Lance Stroll's race engineer. You had been with him since Racing Point, Williams, and now Aston Martin. You had a massive crush on him but you would never tell him that.
It was the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix the previous race going well with Lance ending in P6. The race had been going well so far here too. Everything was great until lap 18. You were talking him through who was around him and who to watch for.
That's when everything went south. Turn ten. Lap eighteen. The moment burned into your brain. You prayed that you were just imagining things, maybe you were dreaming. The thoughts racing around my mind. Lance had run off the track. That's when I heard it.
"Y/n. What do I do, is the car on fire. Do I get out of the car? Y/n?" Lance said, his breathing rapid. Voice wavering, filled with panic.
"Hey Lance, you're ok, breathe with me, stay in the car they're gonna put out the fire. Front right. You're ok baby, you're ok I promise. Breathe with me." You responded quickly giving commands to breathe in deeply and breathe out slowly. You clicked onto the drivers view cam.
You saw he had tears welling in his eyes, "Hey Lance baby it's going to be ok, keep breathing with me. You'll be alright." You saw him frantically pointing at the front right tire for the marshals. They extinguished the fire and you went over the radio again "You can hop out now Lance, I'll see you back in the garage." Your calm voice soothing his nerves a little bit. Lance hopped out of the car loosing radio connection to you. He walked out and rode back to the paddock on the scooter. You had already ran around the paddock to get Lance before and interviewer could.
You had mentioned that to the rest of the engineers and team and you had someone else take your place for Alonso. You were going to calm down Lance for the duration of the rest of the race. You saw him walking through the paddock, he was shaking slightly. You began jogging towards him when you saw someone with a large camera and a microphone walking towards him.
You stepped between the interviewer and Lance "He will not be talking to any of you until after the race with the rest of the drivers." You said bluntly with a hint of aggression. You grabbed Lance's arm and dragged him to his drivers room. He went and sat down on the couch in his room while you closed the door.
You turned around and saw he had his head in his hands and his elbows resting on his knees. His body was shaking with quiet sobs coming from him. You got on your knees in front of him and grabbed one of his hands and pressed a kiss to the back of his hand. He looked up and you could see tears streaming down his face. "Oh Lance baby it's ok, you're ok now." You said quietly as to not startle him. You wiped away the tears that were streaming down his face. He stood up and dragged you up with him. He pulled you into a hug.
"Lance, Lance you're squishing me." You giggled into his chest. "Sorry, I just needed a hug. Thank you for everything today. I'm sorry I couldn't do better." He said his voice wavering slightly throat still tight from the sobs filling his body minutes ago. You reached up and placed a kiss on his nose a smile reaching his lips. "You can't do that y'know, I've liked you for way too long." He said staring down at you.
"What? Are you being serious?" Blush reaching your cheeks and a wide smile forming on your soft lips. Lance brought his face closer to yours one hand on the small of your back and the other on the back of your neck gently pulling you in. Your arms wrapped around his neck. Your lips connected and it felt like everything had fallen in place. His soft lips moved against yours in a perfect rhythm. He separated the two of you and smiled a soft smile and spoke "I love you so much y/n." "I love you too Lance" You said and giggles erupted between the two of you. Both happy to finally be honest with the other.
