They found her walking alone on the highway, her long brown hair pulled up into a messy ponytail, a ratty-old-tan-bag slung carelessly over her shoulder, causing the skin there to become red with irritation, and possibly sunburn. She only wore a tank top and a pair of khaki shorts; not much protection in the middle of the apocalypse... But in a world like this you have what you can get.

The group pulled over and doc stuck his head out of the window. "Hey, you need a ride, kid?" The girl was about the same age as 10K, who rode in the back of the truck, standing against the back window with his rifle resting over the top, leaving easy access for shooting purposes.

The girl looked up and squinted her round, almond eyes. "Yeah... That'd be great..." She said quietly, from either ware or shyness. Either way, Doc waved her forward and she jumped in the back of the truck with Cassandra and 10K, and they were on the road again.

After about a week, the group already considered her as one of their own. Her name was Sam, and she was 19. She got separated from her parents and her younger brother during the second year AZ, and she had been alone ever since, at least she was until the group came alone.

She grew to a disliking of Murphy, just as everyone else, but somehow she found herself appreciating his honesty, even if it was a tad bit morbid. Her and Addy became close, they had a lot in common and Sam was like a little sister to Addy. She became close with everyone; Mack, Cassandra, Warren, Garnet... But the only person she couldn't get close to was 10K.

When they were with the group, he would remain mostly quiet, but when they were alone, whenever he had to speak to her, he would talk with a quiet-yet-condescending voice, that would cause Sam to question anything she had done to offend him.

Nothing. She had been nothing but kind to 10K, even saved his life a few times.

Sometimes his attitude towards her would get on her nerves, so she would ask him if she did anything to upset him, and he would just shake his head and mumble "Absolutely nothing," with a bite to his word like a snake that stung at Sam.

No matter what she did, 10K was always a douche to her. Even the group noticed the distance he had towards her, but still, he wouldn't tell them anything.

"Can you move?" He scoffed one evening, nearly pushing passed her in the hallway, while they were staying in a quaint little house.

Sam looked up to him, finally having enough of his attitude without knowing the reason behind it. "What is your deal, 10K?" Sam asked.

10K turned around and looked at her. "What?"

"No matter what I do, you talk to me as if I'm a child... Like... Like you hate me or something and I don't even remember doing anything wrong!" Sam complained, her arms gesturing almost wildly out at her sides as she took small steps closer and closer to 10K, trying to make herself seem intimidating, but failing to scare the skilled assassin. "What did I do to you? Huh? Or... or... what is so bad about me that you have to treat me so poorly compared to everyone else? Is your ego just so high that you-"

Suddenly 10K broker through Sam's rambling thought, grabbed her by the shoulders and pinned her against the wall, yet still managing not to hurt her. Their faces were an inch, at most, apart. His breathing was fast and filled his chest completely with every intake of air. Sam could feel his breath down her nose, he was so close, and she was somewhat frightened... What was he going to do? Did she upset him?

And he looked her in her eyes with his blue hues and stared at her for only a minute, before he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. He kissed urgently, yet he was gentle (and clearly new to the whole thing).

Sam melted into the kiss, and let her hands slide through his dark hair, until he broke the kiss, and she realized what just happened, and she dropped her hands back down to her sides and just looked at 10K as he looked back down at her.

"I'm like this," he finally said after a moment, his voice resembling the tone he used with the other members of the group, but laced with a hint of bashfulness. "Because I don't want you to get hurt... because I like you a lot... And... And I just don't...wanna lose you..."

The anger that Sam once held in her mind whenever she thought of 10K quickly melted away, and she finally saw him for what he really was... A scared young man, trying not to get attached to the girl he likes because it's the zombie apocalypse, and anything could happen.

Sam sighed and looked down at 10K's boots, a tint of blush in her cheeks. "Even if you do like me, 10K... you don't have to be so mean to me... It makes liking you all the more difficult..." When she looked back up to him, his eyes were slightly wide and his eyebrows were raised, a blush was evident on his cheeks.

He nodded nervously. "Okay... yeah... I'm sorry."

"It's okay, 10K," said Sam. "It's okay," it was then that Warren called the group to the truck; it was time to go. So Sam leaned up and pecked 10K on the cheek, before slipping out between him and the wall, and heading to the truck.
