Carter POV

I woke up in my bed again. Just by looking at it, I could tell that Luffy locked the door before she left. They always did that to keep me in here. They tell me that it's to keep me safe, but I don't believe them. I've tried to get out of here before, but someone would always catch me, and they'd get mad. Sometimes, they would get really angry, and they would punish me. Most of the time, it'd be painful, like getting smacked or locked up in here with no food for a while. After my punishments were over, they would always try and apologize to me for hurting me, but it was my fault for trying to run away. Even when I only got out to get a snack or drink without telling them because I was so hungry during my punishments. No matter what I tried, I could never escape. And what's worse is they put this thing on me that makes it so they can find me no matter where I go. T-They won't let me leave no matter how much I cry and beg for them to let me out of this room.

Not that it would matter. The Sunny is out in the middle of the ocean, and I don't even know where any other islands are from us. I can't swim out of here no matter how much I wanted to. I'd just end up getting tired and drowning eventually.

Carter: *sniffles*

I felt tears welling up in my eyes again. The only thing I wanted was to be free. I just wanted to finally get out of here. But I know that there's no way for me to escape them. Even if I did, they would just find me sooner or later.

Carter: "P-Pl-Please..... someone... anyone...... Please help me."

No POV

Carter sobbed softly in his room as his "moms" talked amongst themselves outside on the deck of the Sunny, not hearing the poor child's cries of sadness and despair. It was something that they had heard countless times before. As much as it hurt them, they knew that keeping him in his room was the only way to keep him safe. After all, the world outside was far too dangerous for a child like him. There were far too many things that could happen to him, and many people out in the world who would hurt him. They couldn't risk their baby getting harmed without them being around to protect him. Even if it made him cry. He just didn't understand how dangerous the outside world would be. They needed him to learn that it was safer to just stay with them, even if that meant having to use pain to keep him from trying to leave. They hated doing it, but sometimes, it was the only way that they could get him to behave.

However, today would be different from most others. As the hours slowly ticked by, the crew managed to find a temporary rest stop on an island to make make preparations to continue their journey to make their way to the grand line and find the one piece. Luffy went to check Caryer's room to see if he was alright. She cracked the door open and saw him, seemingly asleep in his bed, snoring softly. She smiled and gently kissed his head.

Luffy: "Goodnight, baby. Mommy will be back soon."

She smiled and left the room, locking the door behind her before departing with the rest of her crew, who were on their way to the nearest town in order to get more supplies and food. Little did they know that Carter was, in fact, awake. And this time, he was planning on escaping. No matter what.

Carter POV

I heard them all leave the ship, and after a few minutes, I got up. The door was locked, but I know that I have to get out of here. I can't stay here anymore. And now that they're gone, this might be the only chance I have to get out of here. I used my devil fruit power to create a small tentacle from my finger and got it under the door. I couldn't see the lock, but I was able to feel around for a bit before finding it and managing to open the door. At first, I thought that this was too good to be true. That someone would be outside waiting for me so they could punish me for trying to run again. But there wasn't anyone here. I-I was finally free. I really had a chance to escape!

Carter: 'I....I-I'm getting out.....I-I-I'm finally getting out!'

I looked around cautiously for a second before running towards the side of the Sunny and jumping off the side and into the water. Just before I landed, I changed into my octopus form and started swimming away as fast as I could. I couldn't believe what was happening, but I didn't care. I just wanted to get as far from them as I could.

Carter: "I-I'm finally free."
