yeeun sat in the living room, on the tatami flooring, with her sister seungyeon. it was a public holiday, but it seemed like the channels were the usual, which was quite boring as the programmes were about home shopping.
yeeun flipped the channels nonstop before the sibling duo decided to settle with a documentary about animals in the arctic. as the tv blared on about how a polar bear would hunt for food, yeeun looked out of the main door, which was kept ajar as there was a gate at the front yard, and for cross-ventilation.
her phone started buzzing, and yeeun picked up the call. it was from yoon.
there were some excited shuffling noises before yoon spoke.
"yeeun ah! i received a letter full of money!!"
yeeun tilted her head in curiosity. "that's weird. it could've been addressed wrongly."
"no, but there was a letter-" yeeun diverts her attention to the outside of the house. a suited man dropped off an envelope in the mailbox. it can't be any ordinary envelope...
"hold on, yoon. i'll get back to you." yeeun stood up and ran to get her keys, dashed to the front of the house, unlocked the mailbox, and took the envelope. she went back to the inside and opened the envelope.
the contents of the envelope made her jaw drop.
inside, there was a cheque worth 10 million yen addressed to her and signed by someone with the initials 'LSM', two private plane tickets, and two letters of a successful application to a high school in korea, one for yeeun, another for seungyeon.
yeeun picks the phone up and calls yoon again.
"did you get a cheque, a plane ticket and a letter of application?"
"YES! thatwaswhatiwastryingtotellyoujustnow-"
"calm down, yoon!" yeeun laughed.
"well, i guess this is really for us."
