It was a brilliantly crisp spring day. The sun had risen in the sky, its soft warm waves could be felt on everything. The people walking by, the dogs and cats ambling about, but most of all on the flowers. The flowers bathed in the sun's warm rays, taking advantage of this to grow and bloom, to evolve as all things in nature did.
A soft breeze of spring air filtered through the wide-open window, tickling the skin of the couple inside. "Morning Danvers" the quiet, relaxed voice of Maggie Sawyer spoke against the neck of her lover, Alex Danvers. The couple had recently gotten back together, their love filling this springtime season with glee and happiness.
Alex was still getting used to being called Danvers, as her previous partners hadn't bestowed nicknames or anything of the like. She knew that Danvers was her last name, but hearing a still sleepy Maggie say it, felt like the start of something new. Felt like rebirth in a manner of speaking."Morning Detective Dimples" Alex said a blush lighting up her cheeks. This nickname had originated during their initial romance, Alex loved Maggie's dimples that formed when she smiled and thus from there, came the nickname Detective Dimples.
Maggie chuckled brightly as she saw the blush, rolling over her girlfriend's cheeks. "Aww you are a big softie" she teased, lightly running a hand through Alex's short pixie cut hair. The texture was so soft and felt nice beneath her fingertips. Between the two of them, Maggie's love language was physical touch.
Alex preferred giving gifts and acts of service, so it was with that thought in mind, that she began to rise from the bed, from the soft silky sheets that she so often favoured. This brought a groan from Maggie's lips, as she was in a particularly touchy-feely mood, wanting to pet and caress her girlfriends' skin.
"Settle down Mags," Alex whispered, pressing a light kiss to her cheek. Maggie giggled at the usage of another nickname. "But I want kisses... and to indulge the need to touch my beautiful girlfriend" Maggie whined good-naturedly.
Alex blushed a bright red at this, knowing how Maggie got when she was determined to do something. They had only been together a few weeks and in that time, Maggie had hardly been able to keep her hands off of Alex for more than five minutes at a time.
Of course, it went without saying that Maggie thought Alex's blush particularly beautiful and appealing. Like everything about the elder Danvers sister in her mind at least.
"Where are you going anyway...?" Maggie asked curiously. Her eyes were wide with a childlike curiosity at the prospect of new information. This was part of what made her such a good detective. The relentless pursuit of information and never being satisfied with what she knew.
"That's for me to know and you to find out" Alex said with a cheeky grin, as she slipped into what for her was a casual outfit. This meant a black t-shirt, snug fitting workout pants and boots. Maggie bit her lower lip as she eyed Alex up and down, unable to stifle a moan. God Alex looked good she thought to herself.
Alex's steps echoed and bounced along the cobblestone pathway of their garden, the wind now ruffling Alex's hair as she walked, enjoying being in the spring warmth. In that moment it was clear that Alex was meant to live a life in the light, to live a life filled with love and hope. Her thoughts were a wide chasm of feelings, of desires, of things she wanted to do as they rebuilt their life, begun their romance anew.
Prior to falling in love with Maggie again, Alex had been resolute in her stance that she would remain alone, for the rest of her life, but a chance meeting had changed all that. And now both She and Maggie were in the throes of love, their romance blossoming as the season of spring continued. One hand trailed along the white paneled fence at the edge of their garden, a garden filled to the brim with a variety of flowers, including, Daffodils, Tulips, Pansies, Primrose, Bluebells, Lilac, Iris, Snowdrop, Freesia, Peony, Lily of the valley, Azalea, Hyacinth, Marigolds, Zinnias.
All these flowers Alex had tended to lovingly and with the utmost care. Crouching down out of view, she selected a bunch of these flowers, forming a small bouquet which she intended to present to Maggie. The bouquet consisted of Bluebell, Primrose, and red pansies. With a single orange pansy and one yellow pansy.
Once the bouquet was neatly packed and prepared, hidden behind her back, Alex smiled and took a deep breath as she made her way back to where Maggie awaited her. Her breath caught in her throat as she saw Maggie's wide innocent smile, so filled with love. "I'm so lucky" Alex muttered under her breath, so happy to be with Maggie again.
"What's behind your back Danvers?" Maggie queried with a raised brow, her curiosity getting the better of her. A soft brilliant laugh left her throat at this question, the sound was rich and so full of joy and amusement. "I got you something, both to mark the spring season and to mark our getting back together" Alex stated taking a pause and feeling nervous about how Maggie would react to her gift.
Maggie bounced a little as she waited to see where this was going. Her heart kicked up a little, started beating a little faster. She gulped loudly as her nerves took over, wondering what had caused Alex to act so adorably shy. A second passed as out from behind her back, Alex presented the bouquet of flowers, while striding over to Maggie, a warm bright smile on her face, that in Maggie's opinion was reminiscent of the sun.
"Aww Danvers, these are beautiful, you picked these out just for me?" Maggie asked, a smile forming on her face, bringing out those dimples Alex so loved to see.
Alex nodded at this statement, her face lighting up with pure unabashed joy and hope. "may we have many more spring seasons together, my love" Alex said softly, the statement filled with love and hope... a wish that she was putting out into the universe.
