"Attention to detail in the preparation is the prerequisite of all planning." Professor Riddle began. "Ah! Harry my boy, I was beginning to worry." Greeting Hermione, Harry, and Ron with a smile.
The two boys were in dismay, where Hermione felt at peace. Potions class was one of the only places she felt at home, until this year.
"You brought someone with us, I see." added Professor Riddle.
"Ron Weasley, sir." Ron began. "But I'm dead awful at potions. A menace, actually so. I'm probably just gonna -" he trailed off.
"Nonsense! We'll sort you out!" said Professor Riddle. "Any friend of Harry's is a friend of mine." he smirked. "Get your books out."
"Sorry sir, I haven't actually got my book yet. And nor has Ron." Harry added.
"Not to worry, get what you want from the cupboard." said the Professor. " Now as I was saying, I have prepared some concoctions this morning." "Any ideas what these might be?"
"Ah yes, miss...?"
"Granger, sir." Hermione began. " That one there is Veritaserum." "It's a truth telling serum." "and that one-"
Harry and Ron had begun to fight for a couple of text books.
"it's terribly tricky to make." "and this is Amortentia. the most powerful love potion in the world. It is rumored to smell differently to each person, according to what attracts them..."
Hermione turned to the slightly bubbling cauldron, the whiff of the potion right under her nose. "For example, I smell... freshly mown grass and, new parchment and... Ginger..."
"Tom was taken aback, he used to add ginger in his butterbeer fairly often. Perhaps too often." "Who was this miss granger? and why did she make him a tad warm inside?" professor riddle thought. Back to the lesson he persisted.
"Now, Amortentia doesn't create actual love." "That would be impossible, but it does cause powerful inflation or obsession." "For that reason, it's probably the most dangerous potion in this room."
"Sir?" Hermione began. "You haven't told us what's in that one."
"Ah, yes." "What you see before you, ladies and gentlemen... is a curious little potion. Known as Felix Felicis." "It is more commonly referred to as -"
"Liquid Luck." Hermione blurted out, her hand unraised.
"Yes, miss Granger. Liquid Luck." said Professor Riddle. "Desperately tricky to make, disastrous should you get it wrong." "One sip and you will find that all of your endeavors succeed." "At least, until the effects wear off."
"So this is what I offer each of you today." "One tiny vial of Liquid Luck." "To the student who in the hour that remains, manages to brew an acceptable Draught of Living Death." "Recipes for which can be found on page 10 of your books."
"I should point out, however, only one student who manages to brew a potion of sufficient quality to claim this prize." "Nevertheless, good luck to you all." "Let the brewing commence."
Harry turns to a page where the page says, 'This book is the property of the Half Blood Prince.' turning the pages, he came across with them scribbled and already written in. Ron and Hermione are continuously trying to cut a magical bean, to put into the potion. One nearly hits Harry straight on the head. As Harry glances at the pages, there was a couple of words circled. Leading to the instructions of 'Crush with blade, releases juice better.' he was intrigued by this.
As he begins to crush the item, as the book said. The juices were being released better. Lifting it, he began to drop the juices into the cauldron.
Hermione, with concern on her face asks. "How did you do that?!" Harry gave her a friendly smile. adding. "Crush it, don't cut it."
Hermione, a stickler for the rules couldn't comprehend what her friend had been saying. "No, the instructions specifically say to cut." "No, really." Harry added.
Next, the book adds that 13 beans are to be added to the potion. Not 12.
Professor Riddle is about to drop a small red feather into Harry's brew, as it falls. It dissolves at the desired effect. "Merlin's beard Potter, It's perfect." "So perfect, I dare say one drop would kill us all."
"So here we are then, as promised. One vial of Felix Felicis. Congratulations, use it well." said Professor Riddle, giving Harry the vial. Clapping his hands, not soon after. His classmates did the same, except for a reluctant Hermione. Harry stood in front of the whole class smiling, the Liquid Luck in his hands. His advanced Potions text book behind his back. It looked like it was going to be great this year.
