3rd person pov

Jim was sitting on the ratlines. Staring into space well fidgeting of small piece of rope in his hands. Silver came up to hip.

- It weren't your fault ya know?

Jim sighed looking at the place where Lia were for a moment. She wad sitting in the crow's nest. One leg hugging her chest while the other hang outside of the nest swinging it a little. She was looking into the distance not acknowledging anything.

- why how's the crew would be spitting in the black abyss..
Silver started talking Jim threw the rope away jumping down.

- Look don't you get it. I screwed up. I.... for 2 seconds I thought that maybe I could do something right but I... just just forget it. Forget it.
Jim rested his body against the mast.

- no you listen to me James Hawkins. You got the makings of greatness in ya... But you got to take the helm and chart your own course. Stick to it no matter the squalls... When the time comes you get a chance to really test the cut of your sales. And show What You're made of. Well I hope I'm there. Catching some of the light coming off ya that day.
Jim sniffed and rested his head on Silver's chest.

- Lad it's all right Jimbo. It's all right.
Silver hugged him for a moment.

- Now Jim I uhh... I best be getting about my watch. And go check on Lia for me she might want to tell ya something.

Jim headed to the ratlines before looking back at Sliver. Silver gave him a quick smile before turning to continue his watch. Jim started climbing up to you.

Jim's pov

- Uhh got some space for me here?
She turned around nodding and moved a little. I sat next to her resting his head back.

- It's not your fault you know mistakes happen and ya can't do anything about it.

- And ya can't do anything about it.
I turned my head towards Lia. She was staring into space.

- I still feel like it's my fault. Everyone thinks I'm always the one who makes mistakes.
I said. She hummed.

- But it's not TRUE. It wasn't your fault.
She went quiet.  She wiped some tears out of her face. Before facing me.

- You can't blame yourself for every bad thing that happens. Even if you don't want it to happen it still does. Sometimes there's a reason sometimes not. And even if you're right next to the mistake sometimes you can't do anything about it!

She went quiet after this facing the other way avoiding my eyes.
- You sound like you're talking about experience.
She let out a shaky breath.
- I couldn't do anything it just happened...

- What happened?
I asked after moment of silence.
- My parents death.
