“What? I can’t hear you over the amazing tango music that is resonating through my psyche” Richard answered, twirling Erin around.
“Your psyche is your human mind, Richard. Music doesn’t resonate through your psyche. It resonates through your body,” Erin corrected.
Richard pulled out his phone, tapping on it a few times. Soon enough, Erin could hear the sensual music the Spanish restaurants played at night. He pulled out a pair of headphones, handing Erin one of the earbuds and placed the other in his ear before plugging them into his phone.
Erin placed the earbud in her ear, and the pop music was instantly drowned out by bass guitars and cellos.
“Do you hear the music now?” Richard took her hand and placed it on his shoulder and resting his hand on her back.
Erin slowly nodded, looking down at the ground.
“Don’t worry, just follow my lead.”
Erin struggled to follow Richard’s feet, but eventually got into a rhythm, counting out the steps in her head.
1…2…3…4…
She began to notice that the people around her had stopped what they were doing, choosing to watch the awkward couple dance to music only they could hear.
“Ugh, Richard? Maybe we should…”
Richard paid no attention, spinning her and catching her from falling.
Erin immediately wrapped her around his neck, trying to catch her own fall, but Richard simply smiled and pulled her back up.
“and that is why I don’t dance,” Erin commented, pulling a piece of hair behind her ear where the earbud had fallen out.
“Maybe you just need a professional to teach you how,” he smirked.
“That would be you?”
Erin watched as Richard’s smirk disappeared from his face as he shrugged. He started to wrap the headphones around his phone and place it in his pocket when Erin quickly got on her toes and kissed him on the cheek.
“What was that for?” he asked.
“For teaching me the tango, obviously,” Erin blushed, trying to fight back her dizziness.
“Anytime, young grasshopper.”
“Richard, that’s karate.”
