In my opinion, the vow of "always and forever" is useless. No matter how much this family hurts each other, they always come running back at the first sign of affection don't believe me here's an example, whenever Klaus killed Rebekah's lovers, she would always come running back to him with a small tantrum or two. That very same lovesick woman proceeded to bring Mikael to New Orleans and plotted against her own flesh and blood for a man who bluntly choose immortality over her and yet they forgave her and within a week it was as if it never happened. And please don't get me started on the ever-so-noble Elijah, he broke his promises of protecting the family and keeping Klaus in order countless times and on top of that he openly accused his own brother of using children to create hybrids siding with a woman he had known for less then a year but they let him off with a slap on the wrist then forgave him. From my observation, it's a leash that keeps everyone from wondering off to far and finding out what they really like and how they should really treat family a common theme in the Mikaelson family is seems that every generation needs a black sheep of the family, someone who everyone is disappointed in and takes their frustrations out on. The target for manipulation. This person is always alone with their thoughts while most of the family spends their days prancing about the city carefree and having fun.
