"At the time, we didn't know how to face off against an enemy you couldn't see"

- A Merciyan Veteran of the Neith Dimensional War.

Groups of soldiers bearing the insignia of the country of Merciya carefully tread through the concrete streets of an oddly quiet city, devoid of any signs of life in contrast to its once bustling atmosphere. Their equipment clanks, as the already on edge troops make progress down the roads. A newspaper riding the wind startles an inexperienced boy who jumps back at the rogue newspaper that landed on his face, frantically trying to swipe it away in a panic.

One of the more experienced men quietly laughs at the sight, but quickly a stern look returns to his face as he snaps the newbie back into action, understanding the soldiers jumpiness because the enemy they are up against are nothing like anyone has ever faced before in history and it is definitively not his first encounter.

The troops were previously briefed about this unknown enemy force, before they had left for the city. The information ringing in the heads of the new soldiers, having heard horror stories of this foe from the troops who already have first hand experience fighting them.

- This enemy is of unknown origin.

- The numerical strength of the enemy forces are unknown.

- The enemy have devastating and technologically advanced weaponry.

- The enemy is seemingly but not entirely invisible due to a slight shimmer in their presence.

- REMEMBER they are not invincible, they can be killed but we do not know much else so be cautious.

These troops are 7th Commando Regiment of the Merciyan Army and have been tasked with taking key positions within this city of Havil from this invisible enemy. Working in small units they split up and make their way to their individual objectives. Some of the soldiers were born and raised in this city and know it well, having a burning determination within their eyes to take back their home.

One group slowly follows behind an armored support vehicle in a staggered formation as they make it up to a tall building with a ramp like road to the left connecting the the flat street on the right in front. A high ranking officer gestures to halt and the commandos take up firing position in prone and on one knee.

An unnerving silence sweeps across the men as the Major separates from the rest of the unit with three others and carefully makes their way to the entrance of the building. A Colour Sergeant looks up at the windows of the surrounding buildings, up the ramp like road he notices a slight shining distortion through his magnified rifle optics at a window of a building. Immediately realising that they had been led into a trap, he Shouts.

Colour Sergeant: THEY'RE IN THE WINDOWS!!!!

Before the four men could even turn, a sharp purple beam connects with the helmet and head of the Major, reducing it into a fountain of red mist and bits of helmet. Immediately the rest of the men return fire in the direction of where the projectiles origin as the armoured support vehicle moves up the ramp like road, while laying a barrage of cannon and machine gun fire at the building the glimmer was spotted.
