When August Ends

Chapter 13

Fourth of July was always my favorite holiday.

Susannah always threw an amazing party filled with wonderful food and lots of fireworks.

I woke up early and headed down to the kitchen where everything was already in full swing.

Susannah was cooking, my mom was doing dishes, Jeremiah was hanging up decorations, Belly was eating breakfast and Steven was tidying the living room.

"Oh wow I thought I woke up early!" I laugh.

"Nope, we've all been up since six" Susannah laughs "how are you doing Sweetie?" She comes and hugs me.

"Great" I lie hugging her. She kisses my hair and then walks back over to the food.

"Hunny can you go tidy up by the pool?" My mom asks.

"Yeah of course" I say.

I walk out there and see Conrad cleaning the pool. He looks at me then back down.

I roll my eyes and start cleaning up empty beer bottles, empty chip bags and putting all the chairs back in place. I'm fixing one of the lawn chairs and I feel someone right behind me.

"You have to fluff the pillow" he says.

"I know. I'm not stupid. Go back to cleaning the pool" I say.

"I already finished" he responds.

"Then go find something else to do I've got this under control" I say.

He stands there for another moment watching over me. I ignore him until he eventually goes away.

I finish up outside then head inside to find the house spotless. Susannah is still cooking with the help of my mom.

"I'm going to go get ready" I say.

"Before you go" my mom says "is that boy Jack coming? You were seeing him right?"

"I was, uh he's not coming. We're not really together anymore" I say

"Aw why not? He seemed very nice. He always brought the nicest flowers" Susannah says.

Because you're sons an asshole.

"We just didn't really click I guess" I shrug.

"Oh well, alright" my mom says.

"You're father is coming" my mom says "with his girlfriend"

"WHAT?" I yell. "You're kidding"

"I thought it would be nice! Plus we can all meet her together" my mom says grabbing my shoulders "now go get ready!"

I stomp up the stairs.

When I reach the top I see Belly and Conrad in a bed room messing around while making the bed. I was done with everything and everyone. This day was turning out to be the worst one yet.

At least someone could make him smile. Maybe they were meant for each other. That wound be my luck.

I grab my phone and scroll through my Instagram. I eventually get up and shower and get ready for the day. I decided to wear something super cute. Short little jean shorts with white lace at the bottom with a Gingham Print Puff Sleeve top that was cropped. I put some waves into my hair and do my makeup.

Once I'm finished I walk down the stairs.

"Aww hunny you look beautiful!" Susannah says. "Hopefully some of the families I invited bring their sons!"
