6 YEARS LATER
Roshan's POV
I wake up and rub my eyes. Mommy isn't here. Dads here though. I love my dad and my mom, but if mommy isn't here when I am sleeping I get really scared. Dads breathing is shallow and I keep twisting my head frantically trying to find mom. Tears spring to my eyes and without a second thought I wail out it tears.
“Mommy! Mommy!” Snot and tears stain my sticky face.
I cry out again as the tears fall harder and I start gasping for air cause I am crying so hard. I hear daddy shuffling awake. And moms yelling something from the kitchen.
Mom!
“Jan! Get Roshan ready for school!” I started school just this year. I have two friends. Their both boys but I don't care. Everyone else calls me weird and asks why I don’t talk to other girls. They say that I'll get sick from the boys. They say the cold is called cooh-tees. I don't think Jim and Bo will get me sick though I love them and I know they love me too even though they only say it when its just us three.
I don't wait for dad to get up. I jump out of bed, proud of myself for landing on two feet. I am really getting good at this jumping thing! I run to the washroom, step up on my stool in front of the sink, and grab some soap to wash my face.
“Ouch! Ouch!” The soap got in my eye and it hurts really bad, but I can take it. I rinse of my face till my eyes stop burning and grab my toothbrush. After putting the toothpaste on like mommy taught me, I brush my teeth counting each stroke with precision. I run out and into my own room and after a bit of difficulty, put on the clothes mommy laid out for me on my unused bed.
My room is all pink with everything a matching white or pink color. Barbie stickers, posters, and furniture pieces cluster my room and walls. I have toys of all shapes, color, size, and material in here. I even have a mini vanity! Aunty Leena bought me almost all of it! I love Leena. Almost as much as mommy. Her and my other aunty Lilly are the only two people I can sleep beside without crying. But Leena lives with her husband Fredrik in America. And I don't get to see her as much as I wish I could. I want to go there so bad! I wanna see Disney land, and Leena promised she would bring me there soon. I love Fredrik too hes really nice and playful! Like my uncle Landon. But Landon bugs me sometimes and I don't like it. He tries to play fight me and tickle me. It annoys me sometimes. And he annoys me the most when he pulls my thumb out of my mouth. Mommy gets mad that I still suck my thumb, but I don't wanna stop yet.
Today is a very happy day for me. It's my birthday! I am turning six years old today... well mommy says so, and I trust her. I don't always remember how old I am, but today I promised myself I'll remember so that I wont have to ask mommy.
I know how I will spend my birthday. The same way I always do. With my family and with my favorite people ever! My two cousins. Their both older than me. They are sisters and ones two years older than me while the other is four years older than me. I love them so much! They are the two funnest people ever and I tell them everything. The one thats only two years older than me's name is Jasmine and the one whos four years older's name is Monica. I told them about my secret. My secret was that I see what Daddy does to Mommy, He makes her skin blue and green. He hurts her really bad. And I started doing the same thing to my toys. I don't know why, but it feels good to break and rip my toys. They don't scream and cry though and they don't turn blue. But I guess its good enough.
