I was once again at the café.
It was a sunny day but yet it had a chilly breeze to it that did not permit someone leave the house without a jacket or sweater. The café was not so busy but I had already served some few customers who came by for a coffee to-go."Everything going well" Simon who was at the back in the kitchen asked, he surely saw that today was not my day. I nodded and smiled convincingly towards him and he just shrugged. Not like he could press something out of me. I was still thinking about Louis. Not like he was my concern but the possibilty that he was in trouble stressed me out alot.
Maybe he was in trouble not for a crime, I thought, he did not look like a criminal the previous day.
I decided not to think about that anymore. My shift was soon over. I was cleaning a table that was left recently. I felt someone standing behind me. I turned and screamed a little in shock. Louis was a head and a half taller than me maybe even more. He was standing so close to me I could smell his masculine scent. I quickly checked my surroundings, left everything I was doing and dragged him into the toilets.
I looked left and right to make sure no one had followed us or was watching us before locking the door behind me. He stood there and looked at me all along. Did he know there were people looking for him?
"What are you for heaven's sake doing here?" I asked him almost furiously.
"I came to see you." He told me and gave me a shy smile, was he blushing?
"Guess what, the first time we met brought an inspector to my house and what should I expect today? The whole police force?" I folded my arms and saw the colour that creeped up his face seconds ago all fade away as he now bore a look of terror. He wasn't scared but terrified.
"What did you say?" He asked me slowly not wanting to believe what I had earlier said to him. "I said there is an inspector looking for you. Would you care to explain why you are so wanted?" I asked him now with a raised eyebrow and was already bracing myself for whatever truth was to come.
He had a hand on his waist and was looking around scratching his head from time to time clearly thinking of what step to take next. "I can't explain now but you need to come with me." I looked at him repulsed. I was not going to leave with him anywhere we might have had a blast yesterday but he was still a stranger. What if he took me to the woods to kill me. I slowly shook my head,no.
He took my hand in his, he wanted me to trust him. His hands were big and his palm was soft and smooth comapred to most boys and most of all warm. We looked each other in the eye. His blue eyes were mesmerizing, one could get loat in them.
"Vinora please you have to trust me on this one. If those people now know you have spoken to me or had contact with me they will not leave you rest. They will always come after you. You have to come with me. Please, it is for your own safety." He tried to convince me.From then on my life took a different turn.
We took my car and I drove as fast as we could to my place. I wrote a note to my parents and left it on the kitchen table. I was old enough and I was already thinking of moving out. Could have aswell been today.
Ipacked a few things of mine in my sports bag. God knows how long I would have to be away. I just hoped it would not be too long.
I locked the door of the house behind me and entered the car putting the bag i had brought with me on the back seats.Louis gave me instructions and we drove out of town. "I didn't tell you my name" I said after a long silence. We had not spoken a word since we left the café. He sat up straight and looked out of the window. " You did not have to" he said the smiled a little at me. "How much more do you know about me" wheresoever he got his information from could has aswell served him more on the platter.
He let out a breath and now looked ahead. "Your name is Virona Elizabeth Lorraine. You were born on the 18 February 1998. Your father is from Ghana and your mother is from Germany however they met here and got married. You did Ballet when you were 5 years old and stopped it because you did not see yourself as a princess. You did karaté for a few years and stopped it aswell. You got done with High school last year and had no plans of entering college. You like music and books more for entertainment. You-"
"You can stop there" that was alot. So I was an open book to him huh.
It was already evening and we stopped by at a gas station to get some snacks and fuel the car. I got the snacks while he fueled the car. I don't still know how long we would be on the road but I was definitely hungry and I suspected he was to. I got two of those aweful coffees but what other choice did we have. I headed back to the car after paying what I owed and he was already inside."I got us coffee. Warning: it tastes aweful" we laughed at this and he took the cup anyways. The coffee was not that bad, but I had tasted better. We sat in silence drinking our coffee and eating the snacks we had with us.
"They are looking for me because they want something from me." He said still eating without sparing me a glance. Instead he was looking ahead. I was interested in what he had to say and I deserved to know.
"What happened?"
"My parents died when I was little. They had alot of property and all the money they had with everything else was signed in my name according to the will. My nanny who was the closest thing I had to the family took care of me during that time and then a long distant aunt of mine popped up from no where. Of course all what I had of mine was put in her care untill when I was old enough to manage things by myself." He swallowed hard and continued " I was not treated well by this my aunt. I was home schooled and she did not let me go out of my room often. One day when I was walking in the garden, I heard her speak to a man. I could sense it was about me so I hid and eavesdropped on what they were saying. What I could gather from their conversation was that they wanted me killed so that they could get everything I owned. My instinct to survive was so strong that i ran away with no where to go to. For weeks I was staying under bridges. Eating whatever I could find. Then this man saw me and met me under that bridge. He introduced himself to me as Lucas and he even gave me sandwich, the only thing I had eaten in 2 days and he asked me where my parents were and where I was came from. For some odd reason I decided to trust him and I told him everything. Even if he were sent to come find me I would be okay with it. Afterall, I was not living a life anymore I was merely trying to survive and it was wearing me out.
He invited me into his home. He did have an elder son James and we immediately bonded, his wife Cecilia was very hospitable and in less than a few days I felt at home. Lucas promised to help me with my case and now I have the police on my neck because my aunt has reported me to be a thief or something."
I felt bad for him. His life is messed up.
"But why would you be here than with Lucas?" I asked him and looked at him from the side of my eye.
"I was looking for the lawyer that was entrusted with my Father's will but I think he is dead now too", "Sylvia has a habit of sending people to go kill those she knows Im after"
I didn't know what to say to that. It was aweful. We took another bend that took us out of the highway and after a long drive we found ourselves in another town. It was surrounded by large farms and fields of flowers. This town, as Louis told me, was called Ryle.
In less than an hour we found ourselves infront of a beautiful house. It had a small garden in the front porch that had tulips and other flowers. The house itself was painted white and it was 3 storeys high. It was not super big but it had a very good size.Sooooo what do you think of the 2nd Chapter?
