perfect ~ theodore nott

y/n black didn't know much but she did know that being a slytherin was the most important thing. nothing else was of value to her, friends, family, it didn't matter. her father trained her into believing being a pureblood in slytherin was at the upmost importance. so when she finally got sorted into slytherin she didn't know who she was outside of that. she put walls up and hid who she really was in order to be the picture perfect slytherin, heir of regulus black. it wasn't that regulus wanted her to be closed off and a follower of the dark lord, he just wanted her to be perfect, something he never was. to be perfect, you can't have a kryptonite. to be perfect you can't have weaknesses and sure, she had friends but she was cold and distant to them. her friends wanted more out of her, even someone as cold as draco malfoy wanted more. she, however, didn't know how to give that to them because to her, friendships and building bonds with people wasn't important. she slept around and let people believe she was opening up to them just to break them. she found that amusing. it was her favorite pass time. even playboy, mattheo riddle thought she was messing with people's feelings too much. i mean, she was able to play a boy who prided himself on being un-playable. she turned the happy-go-lucky-go prankster, fred weasley into a shell of a man and all she did was make him believe she loved him, then tell him she doesn't love anyone. which was true, she didn't love anyone, not even herself. how could she? she never knew what love was. she didn't get love from her father before he committed suicide in her third year, she didn't get love from her uncle who took her in after his death. he held a grudge against her for being a slytherin. she couldn't say her friends loved her because she wasn't close enough to them to let them love her. she envied those who could feel love. she longed for love, love in the way pansy loved blaise, love in the way draco loved astoria. any kind of love. she wished someone would swoop in and break down her walls without even meaning to. when she was with her friends she would fake laughs and fake smiles but in reality she was lonely, even when she was surrounded by all of her friends. she often found herself alone in the astronomy tower staring at the star her father was named after. she would talk to it for hours as if he was the star, listening to her every word as she poured her heart out about how alone she felt, how empty the world felt with no one to keep her grounded. usually no one would be up there but one fateful winter night someone made the harsh walk from the slytherin common room to the astronomy tower in the dead of winter to see if he could catch a glimpse of the girl with dark hair and pale skin. like usual, she was up at the top of the tower talking to the star.

"you know, dad, i feel alone. i'm surrounded by people, friends, but i feel alone. i feel like there's no one to love me. how am i meant to show love if no one is here to love me or care about me? the world is a lonely place." she chuckled to herself, "i mean, merlin's beard, it's probably nearly dawn and i'm talking to a star as if it were my father." she wipes her tears and laughed harder. "this is ridiculous."

"ridiculous or completely understandable?" a voice called out from behind her.

she practically levitated with how fast she stood up. she felt the wind travel up her, not so warm, uniform she had been wearing since earlier in the day. she glared at the figure in front of her. how dare they stand there and listen to her in such a vulnerable situation? how dare they come to a place like this in the dead of winter? she sighed roughly and spoke.

"who are you and what are you doing here?"

"lumos."

a light shone over the pair and she was met with a tall figure with eyes like oceans. she sighed again. theodore nott junior. a slytherin boy who happened to be in her year, in her friend group. she sat back down, staring at the star of regulus. the boy sat next to her and she rolled her eyes.
