My eyes peal open, only to immediately clamp shut again when a blinding overhead light shines directly into them.
I attempt to open them again, this time giving my eyes time to adjust. I instantly realise that I'm no longer in my cell, there's actually walls with pretty pictures hanging on them and a door opposed to cell bars.
Terror courses through me as I realise that I have no clue where I am. Master would always threaten to sell me off to someone worse if I kept disobeying him so this must be it.
I go to stand up but my arm is immediately tugged back down. Confused, I stare at the tubes coming out of my arm that are running up to a little plastic baggie on top of a metal stand. I inspect it closer, noticing that a little needle is the thing attaching it to my skin.
I start to panic as flashbacks of all the negative experiences I've had with needles swirl around in my mind. In a moment of sheer distress I rip it out, discarding it on the floor as my breathing becomes more laboured.
My eyes start to sting, not being used to being exposed to light as I blink furiously. Through my blurred vision I scan the room, spotting a tall box in the corner.
I stand up which sends a wave of pain through my body as I hobble over to the box which is exceedingly difficult because my foot is wrapped in a funny looking boot.
I open the box, staring at the contents in confusion for a few moments. Who on earth would need this many clothes? I wonder, never having seen this many before in my life.
I climb into it and shut the door behind me before doing what I always do when I'm scared, trying to appear as small and insignificant as possible.
I huddle in the corner, finding comfort in the darkness as I grip my legs and rock back and forth.
"So how is she?" Raf asks, storming into my house and heading straight towards my fridge.
I roll my eyes in annoyance. It's been two days since the unknown girl arrived and Raf immediately ditched me and went straight home the moment she got here.
So even though it was his idea to nurse her back to health i've been the one left with orchestrating her care. I've assigned a nurse and two of my maids to provide her with around the clock care because I wouldn't even know where to start.
