White mist seeped from the door as it slid down and to the side, followed by a blast of freezing cold air. I stared at Summer, who had an equally shocked expression.

"That...answers that question," Sparky said slowly, standing and looking down into the hole.

A ladder led straight into darkness, white mist enveloping everything. I grinned and immediately began climbing down, earning shouts of protest from my friends.

"Luna, are you crazy?" Sparky yelped. "We don't know what's down there!"

I looked up. "We'll be fine!" The metal ladder was freezing to the touch, so I could only keep my hands on it for seconds at a time. Luckily the hole was not very deep, and as soon as I stood on solid ground, I brought my hands to my face and began breathing into them to warm them up.

Summer dropped down behind me, then the others. I shivered as the temperature dropped the farther we went, walking down a straight narrow tunnel.

Faint blue lights lit up the other end of the tunnel. The space immediately opened up to reveal a circular room with a raised platform in the middle, blue lights illuminating the edges of the walls and steps. Some kind of control panel stood to the left of the steps leading to the platform, which had a strange metal cylinder on it.

Summer bent over the control panel. "I think I can figure this out," she shivered, her hands flying over the various buttons.

I walked up to the cylinder, noticing the two diagonal lines on it as well. There was also a snowflake carved into the metal above the lines, and it glowed faintly.

"This is creepy," Umber hissed, hugging herself for extra warmth. Sparky tried to create fire, but his inexperience hindered his powers as much as the cold.

I heard a loud beep as Summer pressed something. I turned back to her, watching curiously as a hand-shaped outline appeared on the control panel.

She glanced to me as if looking for my permission. I nodded once, and she gingerly placed her hand on the console.

The room suddenly lit up brightly, blinding me. I blinked rapidly as my eyes adjusted, spinning back to the cylinder as I heard a hiss, almost exactly like when the door to this place opened.

"Oh," I managed, just now realizing what the lines meant. They were the ancient Ninjagan letter Z. Our ancestors changed the written language when the Ninja passed to honor them. The old letter combined with the snowflake and the freezing cold could only mean...

A sound like a machine powering up came from the cylinder. I stepped back, dragging Summer with me. Sparky, Umber, and Ben stood in defensive positions behind us, facing the platform.

Through the mist, a pair of glowing blue eyes pointed directly at me.

Then, without warning, a robot launched itself at me and pinned me to the ground.

I yelped, taken completely by surprise. My friends lunged at the robot, but it effortlessly evaded them and fought back. It shot a blast of white light at Sparky, pinning him in ice to the back wall, before it flipped backwards and kicking Umber away. Then it spun so quickly it formed a mini white tornado, and when it crashed into Ben, sent him flying back the way we came.

The robot stopped spinning and the tornado went away. It turned to glare at me, its face emotionless.

I gasped and immediately went into my dream state, opening the portal in the Monastery without a second thought. I didn't even see Lloyd as he stared at me, shocked. I stood over myself in my dream form, hands held in front of me.

Just before the robot reached me, Lloyd stepped in the way, yelling desperately, "Wait!"

The robot stopped short, taken aback. I straightened, noticing Summer creep up beside me.
