Chapter 5: A Cure for the Cure?

"Where's Jeremy?" Elena glanced around the kitchen.

            "He's taking his usual nap, Elena. He was down here for a few hours. You guys have been in your room for a while, you know that right?" Caroline laughed.

            "It's easy to lose track of time when I have this beautiful girl begging me to — "

            "Damon!" Elena hit his shoulder, shutting him up before he said any more. He just smirked at her, earning an eye roll. 

            "Right, well...we should talk about reversing the effects of the cure," Stefan said seriously.

            Elena took Damon's hand in hers when she felt him tense up next to her. She knew he was really nervous, that he was banking on some loophole to get Elena out of this mess. He squeezed her hand when she took his.

            "I have," Caroline zipped out of the room then continued, "A bunch of reading for us to do!" She placed a massive stack of books on the coffee table separating the couches.

            "Okay...well, we can make this fun!" Elena beamed at her friends. She was just so glad to be back with them.

            Damon looked at her questioningly when she jumped up from the couch.

            "I'm going to put some brownies in the oven and order some take-out. Who wants some tea?" Elena was oddly excited. Sure this was a serious situation, but she didn't mind doing research while bonding with her friends, no, her FAMILY.

            "Aw, Elena! I love it!" Caroline jumped up and hugged her best friend, well sister-in-law was more accurate now!

            Stefan and Damon were smiling at the scene of their wives making light of a serious situation. It was terrifying for Damon – the idea of not being able to find anything scared the hell out of him, but seeing Elena being so adorably optimistic put him at ease.

            "Alright, we'll get cracking on reading while you two are getting the food. I could definitely go for some Chinese take-out right now," Stefan said.

            "Mmm, Chinese does sound good! OK boys, we'll take care of the food and join you very soon!" Elena bounded over to Damon to give him a quick kiss on the cheek.

            "We're going to find a way," she whispered and kissed him again, "We just need to relax and be positive about it, okay baby?"

            "Damn you and your adorable optimism," Damon smiled and pulled her into his arms so he could kiss her deeply, "I love you."

            Elena smiled, kissing him once more.

            "Elena, come on!" Caroline called from the kitchen.

            Stefan laughed when Elena got up and looked apologetically at Damon, who wanted more kisses, before she started towards the kitchen with Damon holding onto her until she had to pull away completely.
