MONTHS LATER:
Jasmine and Dean are in court finalizing their divorce. Sam and Jamie are there for moral support.
JUDGE:
Before I sign this official document. Does any of the parties want to say anything or does anyone want to change their minds about how we proceed today?
JASMINE:
(teary-eyed; looks over to Dean)
It just sucks that I lost the man who swept me off my feet so many years ago. He's the one who brought me out of my hometown. I would have never left if it wasn't for him but if she can do better for you then I'm not going to continue to stand in your way. I just wish you both the best.
The Bailiff walks over to Jasmine with the papers.
BAILIFF:
If you are true to these proceedings please sign under your name. Also, if you wish to return to your maiden name, Freeman, you may also sign there as well.
(hands her tissues)
Jasmine pauses for a second. Then all of the tears flowed down. She took a deep breath and signed the papers and decided to go back to her maiden name, Freeman. The Bailiff then walked over to Dean and before the Bailiff could ask the same question, Dean signed the papers. Then the Bailiff returned the papers to the judge.
JUDGE:
(looks over the papers)
Now, Ms. Freeman, I've seen this more times than I can count. A good woman gets used and thrown out like she's nothing but let me tell you something. At the end of all of this, you are going to come through this happier than you left. I know it may not seem like it now but eventually you will.
(looks to Dean)
Now, Mr. Braxton, you may not think about this now but you are going to fall down to your knees and realize the best woman you've had is gone. I don't know what this other woman has but things get old. You're going to realize that not everything glitters ain't gold.
DEAN:
Can we just get on with this? I have a flight to catch.
JUDGE:
So Mr. Big Shot, you can stand here and tell me that you have no feelings for the woman you spent the last 10 years with? Look at her. She's over there crying over this. Just look at her.
Dean looks at Jasmine then a few tears ran down his face.
DEAN:
(shaky voice)
Your Honor, I am ready to continue the process to finalize my divorce.
Sam gets up and walks out mad.
JUDGE:
(shakes his head in disappointment)
On this day, May 20, 2018, Ms. Freeman, I grant you your freedom from this sorry excuse for a man.
(signs the papers)
Good luck to you Ms. Freeman. This court is adjourned.
(hits gavel; gets up and leaves)
